We visited right after Christmas and the cottage wasn't open for tours. We did enjoy strolling the grounds and admiring the property. Well maintained property next to the Empire Mine.

Mr. Bourne occupied at times the Empire Cottage, designed by famed architect Willis Polk, and the Clubhouse known for its lavish parties. You can stroll through the rose gardens, and marvel at the majestic landscape. The docents, dressed in period costumes, are always... More

Friendly docents in historical garb. Fun to try to get them to break character! Worthwhile...take your time in the cottage.

During April to September on the week ends, you can relive history. Be a guest of Mr and Mrs Bourne. Be invited into the kitchen to hear Katy tell about her life as the care taker and cook of the Cottage. Live during 1905!

After living in Grass Valley for many years I finally visited the Bourne Cottage. The story of the Bourne family and the history of this house is well worth the visit.

Love seeing this old house and hearing the story behind these wealthy people who lived in Grass Valley. This is part of the Empire Mine Tour or you can wonder around on your own but you can only go inside on a guided tour.
