After having been here a number of times I guess I should review it. If you love trains, you will love Railtown. If you love old movies with trains in them, you will love it. Sporting one of the few working roundhouses left in America, this park is living history. I enjoyed a past train ride and at 15 bucks... More

This is a Railway Museum that has links with the movie industry - think Petticoat Junction. The Museum is just on the fringe of the Town and consists of all the old buildings that the Sierra Railway line had as its base in Jamestown. There was a plethora of Railway Volunteers all kitted out in period costume. In fact at... More

My husband and I stayed in Jamestown for a couple nights as a half-way spot between our house and Yosemite. We visited the Railtown 1897 park on our second day. It's a small park, but the volunteers are very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions you may have. If you visit, make sure to ride the train. Otherwise, I... More

What a place! Fun for everyone. We arrived late afternoon end of August. We were the only ones there and thought we would just quickly walk around. We entered the gift shop which is in the depot. The woman behind the counter greeted us and asked if we wanted a $5.00 tour. What the heck, we thought, lets do it.... More

My husband and I took his elderly mother to Railtown. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. All the employees were very friendly. We decided to take the tour and were glad we did. Tim, our tour guide, was engaging and knowledgeable. The tour provides access to the roundhouse, which you don't get if you do a self-guided tour. The roundhouse contains... More

The park was interesting, but the train ride was boring. We expected a steam train, but got a diesel one instead. The train out of Fish Camp Yosemite Sugar Pine Mountain Railway was MUCH better.

No other visitor were seen when we were there. The park is free but very disappointing since not much to see. I'd find something else to visit.

We stopped here on our way to Yosemite. What an unexpected pleasure. The museum is staffed by volunteers. One volunteer, Tim, offered to take us on a personal tour. It has a big wooden roundhouse and operating turntable. The roundhouse was full of great equipment from the area. There were two marvelous steam engines. One you might remember from the... More

My grandson loves trains and caves. This place covers the train part. There are tons of trains both working and being worked on. The ride is a great cherry on top.
