Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We lived in Haiti for 3 months back in 1974 and visited The Iron Market there - This market is so similar.
It offers everything that one could possibly want - clothing, food, miniature temples, and shoes (to name a few items).
Interesting to say the least. Definitely worthwhile going there. Be careful crossing the street as you take your life in your hands to get there.

Markets are a good place to "taste" the local atmosphere, I believe. This market is huge and has a lot of things to see, to buy or to do like a haircut, makeup, massage etc. So spend some time there and enjoy :-).

Interesting traditional market in sihanoukville, if you are looking for Cambodian traditional foods , seasonal asian fruits, souvenirs or Gold jewelry you could find them here. You’ll love to see how local people live their life.

We donned surgical mask as the dust from construction has enveloped this timeless market. Such a shame. Do they sell dog meat here? Ewe . . . .

A visit to Sihanoukville’s Central Market is a simple way to find out about Cambodian culture, commerce and cuisine. A one-stop learning experience on all things Khmer.
Some posters have been put off by Phsar Leu’s foreignness: it doesn’t smell nice, it’s too hot, it’s too déclassé, it has beggars, it’s too raucous, sellers are overly aggressive, so on and so forth.
Hey, Cambodia is a third world country; most of the indigenous population is impoverished. The traveler should not expect developed country amenities when venturing out of tourist haunts. Those inquisitive, adventuresome folks that desire to see something authentically grassroots local need to keep an open mind.
I’ve lived in Sihanoukville over 5 years and for me Phsar Leu is a true slice of Khmer life in all its exotic glory.
I enjoy the hustle and bustle; I take pleasure in haggling over prices, I’m invigorated by the raw energy of the place. Live fish are hopping out of baskets squirming across the concrete floor in a futile escape attempt, chickens beheaded and plucked in situ, children balling, dogs barking; it’s the unrefined essence of local life.
I recommend a trip to Phsar Leu only for those rare visitors that want to experience another entirely different culture up close and personal in all its non-western nature. Not for the judgmental or the narrow minded.
Phsar Leu is the heartbeat of Snooky.

Don't bother go sihanoukville... This place is a construction area just for China developers which have bought over the entire town. The market is local but is filthy and quite unimpressive. I included some photo of the real streets of sihanoukville and I hope no tourist would support by Goin there as locals are losing their jobs as the big companies or rich China business person would just come over and buy their land, business and changed the culture of the khmer people.
Is a sad situation.

Went to this market as it talked about a great deal.
The town is a building site as I write and it is difficult to imagine it will ever be anything else than that which meant that the tuk tuk ride to the market was noisy, dusty and dirty., if you have a face mask wear it!
Inside the market its hot, very hot if you see the locals sweating on to their produce you know its hot!
The whole place is a disorganised lump of people selling what they can, live animals trussed up ready for the pot and dustbin liners full of red snapper fish, it's all here!
We had no problems but I can imagine it's a pick pocket heaven.
Wellington boots would be my suggested footwear, nose clip and an escape route!
Would I recommend going? No...... find a nice piece of beach and drink a beer.

Compared to Benh Tanh market in HCMC, this is way under maintained and unorganised at all. You can bargain for those Cambodian singlets at $2/each.. I guess that's what tourists would buy! XD
Other clothing is very expensive and they are not open for any bargaining, even a discount of $0.50 is not even possible.
And yes, like previous reviews, I didn't see a lot of beggars but one particular kid. He kept bugging us for money and scared one of our female friends. Our suggestion is to shoo him away without having body contact as we may not know who's behind this little kid's back.
Be careful with own belongings. If you're riding a bike, you can park at the designated area for 1000riels/hour.

This is a very large local market where you can find anything that might be used in a Cambodian household. The market is made up of different areas, so that seafood, clothing etc are more or less in the same area. :Yes some of the areas have pungent smells. There is a very active vibe throughout the market. Most of the 1000 vendors do not speak English, bargaining is the norm and US $ are readily accepted. Highly recommend if you want local culture. Hope this helps.

Worth checking out. A fairly open and spacious market, easy to get to from the beach. Lots of items here to purchase at a good price, a fair price for tourist items compared to other markets in Cambodia.

How much does it cost to travel from sihanoukville cruise port to phsar leu market for 4 passengers?
Written 7 April 2019
u should book the entire tuk-tuk and it can take 4 people easily. price is same for 1 and 4 once u booked the full tuk-tuk. now the price, I forgot about the price but u must bargain till the last. start saying them the half price they are asking. and don't just take any tuk-tuk from the 1st point. walk like 50 or 100 meters u will get a better price then. good luck.
