Like many reviewers I was very impressed with the ancient city. Pingyao's glorious days came and went centuries ago, but visitors are given the rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of how people lived in those bygone eras. Yes, other such places exist in china. Yet, they are smaller in scale and far less accessible to Western tourists. The combo... More

The city takes you a few 100 years back in time. Small streets and Nice old buildings. You can get food in one of the many restaurants. Not so Many people speak english but if you both do your best you Will be fine. You can buy a ticket to get in All the old buildings and on the city... More

If you see it , like it , buy it. You may not see it again. Really enjoyed seeing the local people bustling about on bikes etc.

Pingyao managed to retain much of its old architecture, and walking down the ancient Ming-Qing street makes you feel like you're back in time centuries ago. It was a great stay overall. Would also recommend the Wang compound (if you want to see more of ancient Chinese architecture) which is located outside of the city.

Quite a good place to visit. However, there are a lot of people which sort of disrupts the tranquil authentic atmosphere. Also alot of modern shops selling souvenirs, post cards etc. Overall, it's a relatively easy place to reach.

Great historical and cultural town showcasing lots of China's history. China's 1st official bank, security firms and trading outposts have originated from this town.

If you want to see true China - Pingyao is your spot. The old, ancient city in it's best, with all the details and wonders. The new: lots of little shops with everything and nothing: from beautiful hand made items to plastic cheap conteporary stuff. Great magic afterdark: the ugly hides in shadows, the most important glows in inconspicuous light... More
