Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having visited several temples in China, this one impressed me with the very many wood carvings, entire decorations, almost wooden lace, really impressive. The advantage is that we were almost alone in the temple. Big drawback: no taking pictures inside (where the most interesting sculptures are located).

This temple has beautiful sculptures and is well worth the short trip from Pingyao.
On the advice of Lonely Planet, we biked here--what a mistake!
The distance is only 7 km, but you must bike along a major highway that is full of tractor-trailers. Not only did we fear for our lives, but the route was completely devoid of scenery. Highly recommend taking a taxi instead.

this temple is on the way to Pingyao High Speed Rail Station. It is well worth leaving Pingyao about another hour early then planned and make this a stop on the way out of town. Though the place are poorly lite, and many of the statutes are covered in dust, it does not impact your enjoyment of the beauty of these centuries old clay statues. The temple does not have an English speaking tour guide, but there are plenty of articles / webpage written about Shuanglin Temple's statues that you can read while looking at them, so its not a big deal. Go visit it, well worth the extra trip.

You should pay RMB25.00 as an entrance fee besides of transportation and what do you find: an ancient site in with several sculptures in very bad conservation, no any color, very dirt and damaged. I took some photos just to show how they are treating the religious relics.

Stunning temple. Although it should receive UNESCO money it is not restored to its ancient splendor... Such a shame as if fully restored would be an amazing site. Still worth the visit. When we visit there were just a few other tourists.

Don't miss the Shuanglin temple before you leave Ping Yao just to enjoy the exquisite quiet atmosphere of this so old temple with almost no visitor to come and see the so famous Godess with one thousand arms and other old temples around who never changed style and even have kept the same dust still on the statues since centuries ago.

With only 1 yuan riding the bus 108 from the stop near the north gate of the city, one gets to enjoy some peace and quiet at this beautifully old temple. A special tranquility and some sort of weird energy roots deep in this place, where most interesting Buddhist sculptures and cultural remnants reside. Just as we thought that we had seen enough temples in China, this place surprised us.

Visitor can take bus no. 108 to there, it costs $3, and 20 minutes to arrive. The bus station is near the train station (the old one). It is famous for its dolls which made by mud in colour. I recommend to hire a guide for brief introduction. It highlight the visit. On May 25 there is a festival running, many people will pay a visit there, lots of temporary shops available.

The Shuanglin Temple is only 6k away from Pingyao and definitely worth a visit. The numerous statues are amazing, although unfortunately they are all behind bars in very dark rooms. These displays definitely don't meet western standards.

The bike ride there was ok. The road was pretty good, but there are some very polluting trucks... so be prepared to breath a bit of bad air. When we arrived, a man who was selling snacks out front said it would cost 2 RMB each for us to park our bikes. It's pretty obviously unofficially and just a rip off for foreign tourists... but not really worth arguing over $0.60 cents and then worrying about the bikes getting stolen while we visited the temple. So we gave him the money for the bikes, and the two bikes were both safely out there when we finished with the temple.

If you're traveling all the way to PIngyao, I think it is worth the few hours to go visit Shuanglin Temple. The temple and the artwork is truly impressive. When we were visiting, we actually saw a large group of Chinese art students making sketches of the statues and designs at the temple.
