I took the 10:10 am bus from Chenjiaping Bus Station (simplified Chinese: 陈家坪汽车站) to Dazu old bus station (I didn't learn that it was the old bus station until I took a taxi back, and the driver was kind enough to tell me that there're...More
Try getting on a local chinese tour bus (with the help from your hotel) and pay for the English tour guide service once you get to the Baodingshan. Do keep in mind there are 2 sites for the "Dazu rock carvings." One is often referred...More
Dazu has rock carvings at several spots. The main attraction is the cluster at Baodingshan which consists of a steep-sided valley. The Buddhist-inspired carvings are cut into the vertical rock faces, with several of them still brightly painted (after all these years!)

Dazu Rock carvings is a must visit in Chongqing. Dazu county is about 3 hours away from city center; one needs to hire a driver to reach here, and almost no public transportation gets one here easily. Do come early - we arrived around 9:30am...More
One of my students promised me that her 'home town' had a cultural attraction that I would love; I was skeptical as I had never heard of them, but returned to our college a believer. The history and aesthetics of Dàzú Shíkè, protected from the...More

We hired a car and self-drove from Chongqing to Dazu. Direction-wise it was very easy as Dazu is quite well signposted. The road condition was excellent, with half of the journey being the highway (RMB 35 for the toll fee one way). The traffic within...More

We have came here from Chonqging. First bus for 45CNY to Dazu and then bus 205 to Rock Carvings. Entrance fee is pretty high 135 CNY/pp. This place sometimes might be crowded with chinese groups. But rock carvings are amazing. Dont miss to visit museum...More
I only had time to visit the Dazu Rock Carvings because there was an accident in the road and we lost 2 hours. But I remember there were several around not far from each other. You can move in public buses around them.

From the main gate entrance there is quite a long way till the carvings site and along this way I cannot recall stairs but only if anybody likes to ring the big bells located in a small temple on the way. There is a possibility to avoid this temple and just continue in the way through the carving site. This site is accessible but going further reqires to climle throgh a steep way which is not recommended for the scooter. Instead, turn around and use the same way back to the main entrance and again skip the bells' temple and all the long way (maybe about two miles) back to the main gate. I hope that my memory is correct as this is the way I remember.

We were on a CTS Horizons tour that went to Dazu on the way to Chengdu after the Yangtze cruise on Victoria Line Katarina - which was very good. It took almost 3 hours on the bus from Chongqing to Dazu - an hour to get out of town. Chongqing is the biggest city in China with a population of 33 million! We had just over 2 hours at Dazu. It was amazing. Your tour company should be able to arrange something. Trailfinders would be very good for that sort of thing.
