After checking around for the price to join a group tour from Chongqing city, we decided to take the public transportation for a fraction of the cost. Getting there: Subway line 1 or light rail line 3 to Lianglukou station, take exit 3 to Caiyuanba bus station. Take the escalator down for 2 RMB one way, operating hour is 6:45am... More

One of my most favourite spot around Chongqing. I love to walk through the hand carved statues depicting the life and teaching of lord Buddha. As everywhere in China, the gate tickets / entry tickets are comparatively very costly to local life standard but it is always recommended to visit it.

Museum with carving that bring you back in time. 50,000 statues and more than 100,000 carved Chinese characters date as far back as 650 AD

Very long way from the high speed railway station (almost 1h to get to Dazu). You need to get two buses: first 204 to Dazu and then 205 to the caves. But they really worth the visit, they are very different to the others (Luoyang, Datong). You only need 1h to visit them so we go and get back to... More

We are big fans of Buddhist cave art, so this place was long on our wish list, and we weren't disappointed by what we saw. The caves at Dazu are in a stunning location, set in a beautiful forest gully. The trees, bamboo and running streams are attractive enough of themselves, but as a backdrop to the beautiful rock carvings... More

I recommend going here, make sure to use a guide to get the facts. The full program took a few hours. It can be made more efficient by taking a golf cart from the entrance to the caves. And then hire lift back to the parking. Only rest rooms by the entrances. You cannot get around with a wheelchair. Really... More

On a day-trip from ChongQing. To the main station and on a bus direction Dazu and you'll arrive at Dazu's old bust station (LaoZhan). Then on local bus #205 (bus stop diagonal to the entrance of old bus station) and all the way to Baoding Shan (16km ride) where the bus terminates. Back to the old station after the visit,... More

I went with a chinese speaking bus trip from Chongqing as there was no English speaking option. Was a bit tricky but I made new friends with other domestic bilingual tourists. They were so friendly. The site itself offers english speaking locaql guide. The site has had a lot of government money and is being progressively restored. Very worthwhile.

This is one of the most amazing sites I visited during my 5 weeks trip to inner China. Set in a jungle like canyon, the colorful carvings are worth the distance. This is so breathtaking that it is difficult to describe. There are 2 working temples on site, attracting pilgrims from far away. I am only too sorry that China... More
