It was supposed to be a children's pool, but the harbor seals took over and it's a main tourist and local attraction. Great picture spot.

This is one the 3-4 best points at La Jolla for watching seals and sea lions. So, it's worth to visit. If you start from here going north along the coast you will see all the spots for watching the animals within 15-20 minutes.

Everybody days the smell is overpowering bit we didn't notice it. Farther north where there were more sea lions it was much more powerful but the animals were so amazing or just didn't matter. Highly recommend this place. The earlier the better. Beat the crowds.

Took 3 yo grandson on a Sunday. Parking might be easier to find on weekdays. He enjoyed getting splashed on the bridge and getting his feet wet in the surf. High tide might shrink the sand area?? This is not a blanket on the beach...More

We went looking for seals, and there were only a few out in the water. However the place was still beautiful to watch the tide come in.

So nice area to see but go swim on the regular beach or the regular cove. The children's pool often has high bacteria levels and I would not recommend swimming there.

I have walked to this area on each visit to La Jolla. It is lovely to walk along the walkway to see the water and sometimes see the seals! Fun for all!

The seals love it but kids (and adults) should stay out of the water. Let me repeat that - stay out of the water!

The Children's beach is no more, it's not a children's beach right now. It was Last year, tons of kids in the Scripts family donated beach. Now the foul smelling sea lions have invaded again and the stench was horrendous.

Have brunch/lunch/dinner at Georges on the Cove then take a walk down the steps to see the Seals/Sealions at the children's pool and the Dr. Suess park :)

Yes, there are sea lions and seals on this coast year round. You'll find seals at the Children's pool and the sea lions typically hand a little north of this at the Cove. You can usually find the sea lions by the smell (it... More
