We visited during a random weekday. It was less busy then so we let the dog have a little bit of freedom. There are many little sea creatures to discover . We saw crabs, small fish & sea anemones. The do enjoyed an attempt at...More

We got there about 30 minutes before low tide and stayed for about an hour but there was never really what I would consider low tide. Even though I expected a different experience, we did enjoy the beauty of the area.

LOVE this beach! It is a good place to watch the sun go down and grab some sea shells as well. It's never too crowded or overwhelming. It's a great relaxing place to hang out or walk along the water's edge for a while.

Challenging enough for a 4 and 6 year old to climb around and explore to keep them excited and interested for a couple of hours.

My son and I had so much fun playing in the tide pools, walking on the rocks and collecting shells. We easily spent 5 hours here the first day. 2 hours the next.

Living in the desert gives us certain advantages but also gives us disadvantages. There are no tide pools for us to explore to help teach our children about the ocean. The tide pools at Shell Beach offered a remedy for that. After eating a little...More

We found little creatures and shells to look at. I visited with a toddler and 4 year old who both loved it. It's a relaxing, natural place. No restrooms but parking was easy when we went.

Our children enjoyed looking for shells and playing in the waves. They found a few shells, but mostly enjoyed playing in the waves. Worth a visit in combination with viewing the sea lions at La Jolla Cove

Our 17 year old, raised in the country boy, loved this. We hit the area both at high and low tide. Saw many, many interesting things. Seals and sea lions are all around also. High tide came in right when it was predicted it would and...More

There wasn't much to see when we were there. Perhaps we were at the wrong time of the day. Hadn't read previous reviews prior to going...so please do that.

Formally, there is to be no removal of anything from coastal parks or properties, so no shells, rocks, sea animals (starfish, anemones, etc.). With that being said, I think there are probably small caches of memory-shells... More

There is a steep flight of concrete steps from street level to the beach. If you get there at a very low tide indeed, there will be a large expanse of shallow water (not exactly your classic tide pools) with lots of... More
