Not exactly family oriented but, always interesting. Have been to the west coast a dozen times maybe and we always spend a hour or so walking the Boardwalk at Venice Beach. Always camera worthy no telling what you may see.

I thought it might be a good idea to walk along the boardwalk from Santa Monica Pier to Venice. It starts quite promisingly with the wide beach and the ocean to the right and some attractive buildings on the left. There were a few joggers,...More

The boardwalk is a colourful, liberating, accepting place that we fell head over heels in love with! A must visit for everyone who visits LA! Unlike mentioned in a review below, there is a great restaurant called The Sidewalk right on/in the middle of the...More

It was created in 1905. So some of the shops and restaurants are really showing their age. It is a very eclectic boardwalk with the beach, skateboarders & a lot of impromptu entertainers. The day we were there it was cloudy & cold. Hated that...More

The vast majority of what is available to do/see on the boardwalk is downright gross. The street "artists" are not, and the most interesting store I saw was one who welded spare parts into figurines. Add the impressively permanent homeless encampments, horrible public toilets, plentiful...More

There are many homeless people in the area, many of them under the influence of drugs. The area is full of cool street art but it can be a little bit hectic to walk around with so many people acting like crazy.

Venice beach and boardwalk are iconic. The beaches are beautiful and there are tons of opportunities for bike rentals, scooters and other modes and touristy transport. The weather was beautiful for this early fall visit. As the evening came on it was heart breaking to...More

Venice has always danced to its own beat as the
epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along
the boardwalk there are street performers and local
craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings,
souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of
visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting
enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders
do their tricks around the skate park. All of it

As to boardwalks in California, most are not the same as our East Coast boardwalks with their amusement parks (think Coney Island). The closest is Santa Cruz which has an old fashioned amusement park. Santa Monica is an open... More
