Of the three major California opera companies, Los Angeles Opera is the youngest. Under the leadership of Placido Domingo, the company has offered standard repertory with international stars. But what has interested me is its championing of large-scale contemporary opera, such as a grand revival of Corigliano's "The Ghosts of Versailles" a few seasons back. Recently we took in its... As I expected, the production values weren't on a par with SF Opera and the Met, but the music is excellent. Worth a trip.

LA Opera is one of the big players in opera in the US. I highly recommend going if you like opera. They get big-name performers, as well as wonderful lesser known singers. They do both modern and traditional productions. The house itself is beautiful and comfortable. There are no center aisles, but there is ample leg room for people with... More

I didn't know what to expect with a classic play by Shakespeare as an opera. I learned that Verdi's Macbeth is a must see for everyone. Of course, the opera was made all that much better by Maestro James Conlan with the baton and Placid Domingo with the lead role of Macbeth. The costumes for the witches/demons and their portrayal... We were fortunate to attend the friday evening performance of La Boheme. Gustavo Dudamel conducted the L.A. Philharmonic. It was a magical evening and supurb in every way. The music, operatic voices, the acting, the staging, very engaging. And the best thing of all, the place was packed with young people all dressed for a special occasion.

If in Los Angeles or nearby, look into attending a performance of LA Opera. This f ast rising opera company produces world class work. The Music Center has four auditorium on two blocks, close to cathedral, two museums, and The Colburn School.

Fabulous performance. My date and I have seen operas in London, San Francisco. NY, Dallas, Paris, and many other places. This performance the staging, the orchestra were among the best. This was probbly the best stage La Boheme I have seen

This was one of the best opera productions that we have seen. Great singers, orchestra, costumes and stage design. Don't miss out.

Had not attended an opera in a long time and never in L.A. I enjoyed it so much. Everything was great - orchestra, singers, set design, costumes. FIRST CLASS I'm telling all my friends to go while there is still time!

opera Magic Flute created by Barrie Kosky is staged as interaction between film animation and live-performing actors. It is blend if hilarity and drama as only Mozart could have compose and Barrie Kosky implemented in contemporary setting using the latest stage technology. I've seen it in Berlin and is very happy to see it in Los Angeles. it is great... More

Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.
