Just an ol' country jail. You can feel the history surrounding the walls. Easy to get to, right there in town. Just suits Mariposa

A gal at the History Center recommended to see the jail and courthouse in Mariposa. Was good for a photo op and little else. Not much history to see in this area.

I have never seen it open. I have been to the town many times and the building is there, but you are not allowed in to see it. There are no grounds to walk or anything to see. What you see in the picture is...More

It was pretty cool to see and read the info on the building. It took like two minutes and then we were off to the next adventure.

Nice piece of Mariposa history. If you enjoy history then stop for sure. If you don't it is just a short visit required.

This would be one of the earliest jails in California. There's not much to see that the photo doesn't show but if you stop at the courthouse this is only 2 blocks down the street. You do want to stop at the courthouse!

Not sure why this is even an option. There's no tours or anything going on over at the old jail. Just a plaque outside to read....

This jail is located at highest place of Mariposa but is very small, but however, it have an interesting history. If you are staying at Mariposa, after a tour in Yosemite park is worth to go over there.

Interesting history. Door was not locked so you can take a peek inside. If you are staying in town you might as well stop and see it.
