Take the one hour walking tour led by a member of the State Park Service to get a good understanding of the early days and the settling of Monterey. It is well worth your time and very interesting.

Wow, what a great area to explore... from the Marina, state historic buildings, bocce ball courts, the nearby Fisherman's Wharf. Do not miss seeing this area.

We walked through this park without realizing it -- it was more of a construction site during our visit. The buildings were closed while we were there, but if we return, we would definitely give this another chance.

We've been to Monterey many times and have walked by this museum...but never went in. This time we went in and were invited to take a tour. The cost is $5/person...we figured, 'why not'. Now I grew up in California and thought I KNEW the history....as our tour guide mentioned it was what was taught in 3-4 grade. Wow...I seemed... More

Excellent local history, we elected to wait for the guided tour and to listen to the guide, who explained the area and how it was the beginning of the United States in California.

This is not a massive area so it doesn't take too much time to visit. Lots of interesting things to see (including - on the edge - California's First Theatre). The gardens in the park are really nice and well-kept. This is very close to Fisherman's Wharf, so it's a good one to visit at the same time.

The park is adjacent to downtown Monterey and the Fisherman Wharf. Quite a few historic buidings and good history of Monterey and early California. Definitely worth a visit when you are in the area.
