We are avid kayakers who have paddled on five continents, so we always seek local paddling when we're traveling. We did their Monterey Bay tour and absolutely loved it! Our guide, Josh, was truly informative and very skilled at working with paddlers of different experience levels. I was a bit anxious about the heavy surf at the put-in and take-out [after a squall the previous day], especially given my dysfunctional knees and the memory of a capsize in surf like that in Sicily], but Josh launched and retrieved each of us with no trouble. Sea lions, seals, and cormorants abounded, and we were sorry when the paddle ended. Although we avoid sit-ons as a rule, these boats were really comfortable with proper back support, and Josh adjusted the boat for each of us. We had such a good time that we're already planning to return for an evening paddle and the Elkhorn Slough next June. First rate operation!

Finn was a great guide, providing lots of background and details on what we saw. We paddled around the Monterey piers, and I think the Moss Landing location might be better for seeing sea otters, but we would still highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful time on our waterfront tour with Emma and Skye! They were really professional, knew the waterfront and wildlife, and made sure everyone was comfortable and safe. And, thanks to them, I finally know how to get into a sea kayak without falling in the water! We saw a bunch of otters, which were the highlight, for sure, and also harbor seals and sea lions. Our guides kept us a respectful distance from the animals, which I really appreciate, especially as there were young otters still with their mothers. We were glad we had put on the wetsuits and wind jackets they offer, and appreciate that they are free. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Monterey!

Absolutely phenomenal experience at the Monterey Bay Kayaks which is conveniently located very close to downtown Monterey and fisherman’s wharf! We have done previous tours with this company and some local competitors before and their guide Adele really blew us away! She was a fountain of knowledge for all things to do with the bay! You can tell she really loves what she does and cares for the local ecosystems and customers. We were a nervous wreck coming into this considering we have never kayaked out in the open ocean before but our guide was BEYOND patient with us and had an amazing sense of humor that eased us once we were out there. P.S. Only cons to this place is having to pay an additional amount to park, it’s not too bad compared to the prices up in the city but it’s still a little annoying. Dry bags are not included with the tour but you can buy them at the little shop they have. As much as you may not want to, WEAR THE WETSUIT, Adele really had to do some convincing with my husband and I on the wetsuits and damn was I happy that I listened to her because that water is FREEZING. Overall make sure to request Adele as a guide, she seriously goes above and beyond to make sure her customers are comfortable and having a good time out there. Thank you Adele and Monterey Bay Kayaks for such an amazing experience, we’ll make sure to be back!
