Kayak shack is located in the Marina area of Morro Bay State Park. This is a beautiful area off the beaten path. There is a camping area across the road, in close proximity to a golf course. There are also several hiking trails around the Bay Area. Kayak Shack employee's Amber, Brittany, and Betsy were very helpful in my phone... More

This was one of the best kayaking experiences I've ever had. Rental fees are very affordable. If you got at high tide the water will be just right for exploring the Bay and all of its channels. You can see hundreds of birds and some seals if you are lucky. My whole family enjoyed it, even my 7 yr old... More

On the south end of the bay, it was laid back and the staff helpful and friendly. Perfect for our day of kayaking as we had the wind at our backs on our return. Away from the rock and the boardwalk but we had great access to the bay and saw otters, seals, pelicans, etc.

Teens wanted to paddle board in the bay, but were advised the water was a bit to choppy and they might be risking a soaking. So instead they soaked each other racing in kayaks. My daughter and I took a nice canoe and we went all along the bay over to the marina where we watched the sea otters play... More

I was with my daughter and youngest grandson visiting my oldest grandson in California this past winter and somehow ended up in Morro Bay. I had never been in a kayak but my daughter thought it would be a great thing to do. It was and I loved it! The waters in this area are about as calm as you... More

When we visit our son at Cal Poly, we usually hit a local trail for a family outdoor activity. However the weekend we were here, the temperature was in the mid 90s- a bit too hot to hike. I suggested we head to Morro Bay & rent kayaks. Although there are rental places in the village, we choose the Kayak... More

These folks have sit inside kayaks that are a much dryer ride than the sit on top ones rented in town. Really nice people working there, knew info on tides. A bit of a distance from the tourist area but it was a pleasant paddle. They rent by the hour but if you go to the rock and back be... More

At the last minute the 3 of us decided to go kayaking in Morro Bay. We debated on a tandem & solo kayak, but in the end decided on a canoe. It was the right choice as our 8 year old had a blast. He even paddled for a bit, but didn't have to since all of us fit in... More

I had tried for two years to convince my hubby to trade or sell our canoe for a kayak. It was a losing battle until I talked him into renting a kayak from the Kayak Shack at Morro Bay. Now he's hooked!! Morro Bay on a calm day is a wonderful spot for novice and experienced kayakers, alike. Experienced kayakers... More
