Good food, good beers and great atmosphere with amazing view on the Bay. Generous and testy dishes. The choice of beers is really large.

We were only here for one night, my husband likes real ale so of course this is where we came. Characterful and amazing views across the bay to the Rock. We got a drink and wanted to eat, but all tables were taken but we could see a family had almost finished so hung about and eventually got a great table in the window. We had fish and chips which were lovely. It was good watching sea lions and sea otters in the bay.

My wife and I visit Morro Bay almost weekly. We had good experiences at this bar and it became a regular hangout for us. The last time we went, we brought some friends with us and I talked the place up as a nice place to relax, have a beer and enjoy the waterside view. To my great sadness and disappointment, the treatment we got from the Libertine staff that day was so awful that we will never go there again. First, the place was not busy: just a guy sitting at the bar, us and a table of people outside. We sat down at a table and waited at least 15 min with no service. My friend went to the bar, just a few feet away from our table, to order drinks. Two bartenders were engrossed in a conversation with their “bud” siting at the bar and poured the same a tall glass of beer while my friend patiently waited in vain for several minutes to be acknowledged. I decided to join my friend at the bar and flat out asked the bartender if he could serve us. He begrudgingly poured us some beers, as if we we but an annoyance, and I told him we were interested in ordering food and that no one had yet come to our table to take our order. He assured me someone would do so shortly. We went back to our table and waited 20 more minutes, finished our drinks, and still no one attempted to serve us, despite the fact that we were the only ones there! While we were waiting, a waitress sat at the bar folding napkins, completely oblivious to us. Imagine how we felt when a couple walked in and sat down at a table near us and immediately, the bartender came out from behind the bar to take THEIR order. That was all the abuse I could take. We (my wife, my friend and his girlfriend) decided to leave and get our drinks and dinner elsewhere. I stayed behind for a minute to find the manager, who must have been working in the back office the whole time, and told her she’d lost a loyal customer. She tried to make it right and offered us a free meal on our next visit. But we will never go back there again. What I didn’t tell her was the only difference between my party and the other customers and staff there that day was that they were all white and my party had people who are Asian, African American and Hispanic. I hate to think their refusal to serve us was racially motivated, but I can think of no other reason. We were polite, well dressed and well above drinking age. Perhaps they thought we weren’t “cool” enough, or maybe they only serve “locals” or people they know. Whatever their reasons, it was clear the staff made a choice to ignore us while eagerly serving others. That is dicrimination.

My husband and friends were travelling down Highway 1 from San Francisco when we decided to stop in Morro Bay for the night. We were looking for a local restaurant, on the water, with a simpler and more local flare. The Libertine Pub delivered! We were blown away by the number of craft beers on tap and were very happy to have been seated in the restaurant with a view of the harbor. We were lucky enough to watch some sea otters frolicking in the harbor during our dinner. The food was plentiful and good. As a bonus, on this Friday night in March, there was live music and the restaurant really filled up after 6:00 p.m. I am more of a dark beer drinker and really enjoyed the Chocolate Sombrero by Clown Shoes. It packs a punch at over 9%, but was really delicious.
