Tasting in the cave!
Jul 2021
Thank you, Kate, for a wonderful tasting experience! We were a party of 6 girlfriends on a week-long wine country trip. Porter was the very first winery we visited and they set a high bar. We went on the recommendation of our driver, napavalleypat. He's a must hire!! Kate welcomed us with a glass of Rose. We then walked the vineyard and learned about their wine making process, then into the cave, which can't be missed! The tasting experience itself was conducted in a special room in the cave. Each of us have different levels of experience with wine. Kate was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. She suggested pairing the wines with different meats and cheeses presented on a tray, then comparing the wines against each other. Of course we purchased wine to ship home. The Cave Dweller was a favorite.

Porter Family sets the bar high!
Feb 2020 • Couples
If you're looking for a genuinely family-run, boutique winery in Napa that produces phenomenal wines and an unforgettable experience, Porter Family is it. This was far and away our favorite tasting/tour on our trip.

When I was planning, I obsessed for months. There are so many choices! To be honest, Porter Family nearly didn't make the cut because it was quite far from the others we were visiting. At the last minute I decided to include it, and boy am I glad I did!

Florencia was our host, and she is phenomenal. Friendly, knowledgeable, hospitable. You will feel like an old friend catching up rather than a customer! She remembered so many little details from our phone conversation, asked about our trip, and insisted on taking photos of us.

We were greeted with a glass of chardonnay (the only non-red they produce, FYI) and taken on a walk through the vineyards. The winery is GORGEOUS, views for days. They have just 20 acres, as compared to many others that have hundreds and hundreds! We made our way to the cave and were treated to an absolutely gorgeous presentation with wine, cheese, and chocolates. So romantic and quite unexpected, especially at such a reasonable price! We were totally unhurried and chatted with Florencia as we sipped and ate.

The wines themselves, we loved. We struggled to pick a favorite, but especially loved the red blends. We also learned that Porter Family works with students to design their labels and award scholarships, and does several events benefitting children and other incredible causes. It just keeps getting better and better!

You literally cannot buy these wines anywhere other than from Porter Family. Not so much as a restaurant in Napa! We think that is super cool and joined the wine club. We can't wait to receive our shipments and introduce our friends!

I truly believe if you visit here, you will have a new bar as to what a wine tasting should be like. Skip the big names and support a true family run operation.

A must see on your visit to Napa!
Jun 2019 • Friends
I visited Porter about 5 years ago on my first trip to Napa and it was the first vineyard I toured so I now compare everything to Porter (hint: nothing else compares so don't even bother!). It is such a special experience to have a private tour and tasting in the wine cave. My husband and I are members and now get to take our friends to this amazing place when they come to visit and everyone is equally as blown away! The wine is also fantastic and I stock up every time I come to visit!

Go ahead and cave in!

Let's accept that Napa Valley produces pretty consistently good wine, no maybe great wine is more accurate. So when picking a winery to spend afternoon you can't really go wrong and be forced to drink vinegar. Therefore...the tasting experience is what defines the difference between wineries. Porter Family Vineyards offers the most outrageously cool wine tasting experience, and I do mean cool because you spend most of the time in their unique wine cellar: a man made cave that stretches entirely through their vine covered mountain. It is truly unique and beautiful. Oh, and the wines are great (if that matters). Make your reservation now.

Wine tasting
Apr 2019 • Couples
This was a fantastic tasting. Luis Martin del Campo was a great host and let us enjoy all the winery and caves had to offer without pressure. We happened to even stumble upon the owner who was busy working. We purchased some various wines and look forward to bringing friends back to their vineyard.

Unusual visit with overall good mix of wines to taste
Mar 2019 • Couples
The pros for this winery and its tasting was the location, the cave where the wine is made, stored and tasted. The person giving us the tour and tasting was very knowledgeable and very pleasant interested in her guests. With it being on the back of our visit to Reid Family Vineyard it was a little less personable.

This vineyard went the extra step to pair the wine with various cheeses and a chocolate pairing! I am glad we got to visit. This vineyard is almost exclusively a red wine vineyard, although it does have one white (produced for the wife of the owner!)

I would recommend this over some of the others and was not a big marketing push to sell their wine (although we did buy some!)

Simply Perfect

We had a wonderful tour here. Florencia greeted us with a wonderful Chardonnay and then we proceeded into the caves for a tour of where the magic happens. The tasting was elegant and fun and Florencia was an enjoyable host with a wealth of knowledge about the wines and vineyard. The wines are excellent and the experience can’t be beat.
