Horses & Wine...a unique Napa combo!
Jul 2019
What an awesome, intimate experience we had with Kayla! She was knowledgable, interactive, and just an overall very pleasant guide. My husband and I were fortunate not to have had anyone else in our group that Monday morning, so we had our own private tour (50 minute ride) of their gorgeous vineyard-- the only place you can horseback ride through vineyards in Napa.

Although I am an experienced rider, my husband is not. They paired us up with horses that met our individual skill sets. Not only are their horses approachable and friendly (you can interact with them as soon as you arrive at the facility), but they exude manageable demeanors for riders of any level of experience.

We had coincidentally scheduled a wine tasting at Shadybrook Estate just a couple days prior (to our ride) but didn't realize that both facilities were on the same property until we showed up for our tasting and we saw the horses. We were very impressed by, and it's worth mentioning that their staff is meticulous about the cleanliness of their property; it's apparent that they take great pride in their guests' tasting and riding experiences.

Great way to see the vineyards

Fantastic was to see the vineyards. You are taken out in the vineyards for about an hour on horseback. The guide was friendly and passionate about the horses. Views are excellent. It is a bit expensive - but most things in Napa are!

Brilliant start to the day
Oct 2016 • Couples
We enjoyed a 10 am ride around the vineyards on a sunny October morning. Our guide was Karen, the owner of the company, who was sympathetic to our lack of horse riding experience and made it easy to feel confident and comfortable on our beautiful horses.
Karen shared the history of the vineyard and of Napa wine producing and we loved the stories about her own family and their riding exploits.
Our experience lasted around an hour in total which included saddling the horses to go out. The ride was fantastic fun and we loved every minute. We even had a chance for photo's.
Overall, compared to similar experiences we found the ride wasn't quite long enough to offer great value for money but nevertheless we had a brilliant start to our day in Napa and would thoroughly recommend it.
Make sure you wear long trousers and closed toe shoes.

Lovely ride on the beach -- a great trail leader is key

Had a wonderful time riding on Saturday morning --- overcast, windy, and hardly anyone out. It all cleared as we were returning, and guide gave us time to prance on the beach. Wonderful ride with a trusting guide who respected our intermediate riding experience.

Great outdoor, family activity in Napa
Aug 2015 • Family
Although we were there 4 years ago, we had an enjoyable time on the horses and with our guide - he was terrific! Beautiful ride through the vineyard. You sign your life away on the waiver, but that is to be expected riding on a 1500 lb animal. The horses were well behaved and seemed to enjoy providing this experience for their guests. A must do in Napa, especially if you have any horse lovers in the family as I do.

Do the tasting ride!
Sep 2014 • Couples
The ride was a slow walk around the vineyards, took less than an hour. It is a nice way to explore and get closer to the wine district but somewhat pricey unless you book the wine tasting ride, which turns the whole experience unforgettable. The riding staff didn't seem too concerned about safety since it was my husbands third time on a horse ever and they didn't check if he was able to control the horse at all. They do provide helmets however.

Vineyard ride for a great cause
Jul 2015 • Couples
All of the horses at Napa Valley horse company are rescues, and they are wonderful for riding around the lovely Vineyard. Angela was a great guy, and we had a very good time.she also told us that the tumors go to pay for the rescues and adoptions of the entire operation.they had 70 horses on the property that were all rescued from bad situations.after a very nice ride we were given a bottle of wine to take home. I highly recommend it and hope to go ride with them again soon.

Nice ride for a good cause
Jun 2015 • Couples
We love the fact that this company rescues slaughter bound horses and the fact the ride was through a working vineyard. The young ladies that led the ride were both friendly and informative. The horses were in good condition and the guides appeared to know each horse’s personality and preferences fairly well. The rides itself was fairly short but the weather was great and it was just right since we were with my mom, celebrating her 70th birthday. They even gave us a complementary bottle of wine from the vineyard.

Picturesque views, friendly and knowledgeable guides, a wonderful experience!
Apr 2015 • Family
Was looking for something to do in Napa (other than wine tasting) with a young teenager. Saw this as an option on TripAdvisor and was happy that there was availability when we would be in the area. The MapQuest directions were perfect, so it was easy to find. Just enter the property and drive around until you see the large barn, then park. Our friendly guides assessed each person's experience level before pairing everyone with a horse. They want each rider to feel safe and comfortable atop his/her horse. The property is lovely tucked away from downtown Napa and all the wine-tasting traffic. It's in a hilly area so you're afforded nice views during your trail-ride around the vineyard. The horses are sweet and well-cared for. I love the fact that all their horses are rescued from slaughter and given a second lease on life. The adjacent winery has a large and picturesque patio area for wine tasting and other events. Everyone in our small party had a wonderful time and would highly recommend riding with the Napa Valley Horse Company. Would definitely not hesitate to go horseback riding there again.
