The Newport Aquatic Center was founded in 1982 and built in 1987 as a non-profit corporation offering the public unique opportunities in the Olympic water sports of rowing, canoeing, kayaking and outrigger canoe competition. Paddlers and rowers of every age and level of ability use the NAC to sharpen their skills in rowing, canoeing, outrigger canoeing, and kayaking. Beginners come to improve their physical condition, enjoy the aesthetic and competitive aspects of these sports and intrinsically experience the spirit of the NAC. National Teams from Europe utilize this first class Aquatic Center throughout the year. The NAC hosts a variety of events during the year such as, races and regattas that provide an opportunity to hone competitive skills and several fund-raising events. Rowing and paddling clubs are invited to the regattas hosted by the center and NAC members have the opportunity to travel to races regionally, nationally and internationally. Our master/open rowing, canoe, outrigger canoe and kayak teams have won numerous National Championship titles from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts. Collectively, NAC members have won twelve Olympic Gold Medals.

Rented kayaks and paddled up the back bay into the wetlands. Easy smooth water and lots of different types of birds resting, hunting, fishing and flying. A beautiful and calm outing just a few steps from the hectic pace of city life. The kayak center is well organized and efficient. The kayaks, life jackets, and paddles were all in great... More

I love this place. I kayaked here until I was five months pregnant! Rentals by the hour are totally reasonable and if you go often the membership is a great deal. There's kayaking, small sailing boats, rowing and I think other sports as well. I'm a kayaker so even though I meant to I never tried anything else. The scenery... More

We walked up on a wednesday morning and were able to fill out waivers right away. Then they recommended that we use the restroom first, a good idea since you are gliding along the water. We did that, having already applied sunscreen in the parking lot and watched the video at home. If the wait is busier you can fill... More

We love NAC because of their kayaks, outriggers and SUP's are always kept in clean working condition AND they know how to rent out the entire facility for great parties! We had a fantastic summer post-wedding beach party at NAC this September and invited friends and family to this big "water play and foodie" event which was a total blast!... More

I hadn't paddle boarded before and was a little nervous to try. Rental was very easy and quite well priced, $20 for an hour. After a quick tutorial as we took the boards out, we headed to the left which brings you into the nature reserve (the marina is to the right). Lots to see, a very mellow afternoon.

My son (he's 8) and I rented a 2 person kayak. We have been in canoes (in small reservoirs) before, but never a kayak, and never the ocean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had no problem getting equipment, instruction, and directions and were off on our adventure within minutes of arrival. The staff member that helped us... More

I had sent my grandchildren to its summer aquatic camps and they had all enjoyed it until about a year ago when they chose to take up surfing instead. This place is not easy to find but if you just follow Westcliff Drive towards the Bay, there are signs to guide you there. My cousin's granddaughter from Germany was visiting... More

Being on the water is therapeutic - even if paddling against the wind. We rented a double kayak for some exercise on a beautiful day. The service was great and the equipment was in fine working order. We started at noon and the winds were already up, so I would recommend an earlier start for smoother water and less wind.... More

We brought our own Kayaks. Parking was free and right near the beach. Launching is free. Bathrooms are available. Staff was helpful. We took a right and paddled along the nice houses and boats. Water was calm. We went all the way around Balboa Island. That was a good three hours for us. Bring water and a snack. If you... More

I just did my first Moonlight kayak trip on the Newport bay and it was wonderful. The people were fun and informative. I am mildly experienced with kayaking and I did fine (read didn't tip over)! It was work but good experience especially since the moon brings out a strong tide going out to Balboa island. Of course the way... More
