If you want a cemetery where families go to look at the Christmas displays and wander about the masoleums, here's your place. A great place to take first-timers -- freaks them out. Oh yeah -- we have a relative buried here too. She seems to...More

Before the turn of the nineteenth century, at a time when Oakland was seen as somewhat distant and 'exotic' by urban denizens of San Francisco, the question arose about where to put those eminent citizens who had past on. The firm of Frederick Law Olmsted...More

More like a sculpture garden, this old cemetery is beautiful and a lovely place to see old monuments and enjoy the park-like environment. If you like dead people (and their various memorials), you'll love Mountain View.

I like to walk up to Mountain View Cemetery, often taking my dog. There are some rules about dogs at the location, all very reasonable (such as no dogs walking on gravesites). It's peaceful, beautiful and a lovely quiet place in the hub on the...More

We enjoyed walking through after breakfast. Beautiful hills, wonderful vistas of Oakland and San Francisco, and interesting monuments made this something I would gladly repeat. It is quiet, thus, a good place to sit and read, paint or just meditate.

Visited crypt niche of my grandmother. The grounds are beautifully designed and maintained. The buildings were beautiful inside.

Beautiful walk through cemetery that was landscaped by same designer who built NYC Central Park. I walk this space often. It is quiet and peaceful and has well tended nature near the paths/causeways.

Every other week my friend and I walk through Mountain View Cemetery. You can take a dog, but we don't. It's very interesting with lots of headstones from famous people

Every Spring I make a point of visiting the cemetery, respectfully, to photograph the tulips in bloom. Inevitably, there are others roaming around with serious cameras, and wielding cell phones to snap their friends in front of the flower beds.
