About
We pride ourselves on making one varietal that is food-friendly and deliciously drinkable upon release. Our story begins in the early 1970's when Ray Duncan befriended winegrower Justin Meyer. The two formed a partnership and co-founded Silver Oak Cellars in 1972 with the bold vision of producing only Cabernet Sauvignon. Come experience the Silver Oak Cellars Napa Valley winery in Oakville, CA to enjoy exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon wine tasting tours.

We were driving by and saw the Silver Oak Cellars sign to which a person in our group shouted for us to pull in because a friend of hers had raved about Silver Oak. Okay, then! There were eight of us and we knew we had a slim chance of tasting without a reservation but we got lucky and were told that we could stay because it was slow. Well, we were told by person #1 that we could stay... when person #2 heard this she was clearly irritated with us and gave us the cold shoulder the entire time she was pouring. That said, it was a beautiful day and the grounds were inviting with comfortable chairs and beautiful views.

There are many other places in Napa that are more worthy of your time and money. While the wine is pretty good, this vineyard/winery has fallen into what so many have as of late.. a commercialized machine. There is better wine out there, and certainly for the money.

We stopped in without reservation (as the website said they allowed), yet we assumed tastings were full and we would grab a glass or two from the bar. After a rather cold instruction from the hostess that we could only grab something from the bar, we ordered two glasses of their bottom tier Napa Cab, and were charged $86! Then we proceed the the lawn, where they were playing rap music (Good music, but not for casual wine drinking).

The wine was pretty good, the service perfunctory, but it seems they are very proud of their wine and facility. Probably a good large group place, but if you seek the heart of Napa valley and family run vineyards, this is the polar opposite.

In May 2022 we visited the winery for a tasting. We had been there several years ago and have been purchasing the wines for years. We were very disappointed in our tasting experience. The front desk hostess was not very friendly/welcoming. Worst of all, we were sat at a table with 4 glasses of wine. The table host just told us what the wines were and left us to help other tables. I had to ask for a glass of water when I caught him going by. After about 30 minutes he came back and asked what we thought of the wines. He provided no information about the winery or wines. We didn't particularly like the wines. We had been drinking vintages prior to 2010. When asked the guy said that 2010 and after they started blending grapes, not one vineyard. What a terrible experience after paying $65 per person.

We had the most incredible experience at Silver Oak in Oakville. Kolea was our host for the Wine and Food Pairing experience and she is highly energetic, knowledgeable, and personable. She made our experience truly memorable. We were a party of three, joined by a party of five. We had an absolutely amazing experience - incredible wines and the food was perfectly paired. The food portions are full tasting size, not bites or canapés. We had a combination of Silver Oak Napa and Alexander Valley wines + Twomey. Loved being able to taste Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir by Twomey and enjoy the differences between Napa and Alexander Valley Cabs. We even received a Timeless pour, which we had never heard of Timeless. Our overall experience was exceptional!! Best wine tasting experience over the weekend and we went to equally priced + wineries. Highly recommend. Reservations required. If you can splurge, enjoy the Wine and Food Pairing experience.

We had some amazing wines sitting on an amazing patio last weekend. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly, and after our set three tastings she brought us two or three more specials tastings. A great way to compare the different vintages that Silver Oak has to offer.

Came here for the 50th anniversary release party, which was different from last year’s release party. The event overall seemed quite oversold, as the lines were all long for the food and wine, and there were not enough tables/chairs for people. My friend who is a member said that last year the event was free for members ($200/pp for 2022), there weren’t lines for the food, and it was open pour last year (this year you were provided 5 tokens and a special gold one for the library wine). If you lost your token, you were out of luck.

I did enjoy the live music. Note that there were tables in the field if you can’t find any spots inside the winery. There were golf carts/jeeps taking you from the Uber drop off to the winery, or you can walk there.

We go to Silver Oak every year on our wine country trip and sell enjoy going. Their wine is always exceptional. This trip we had a retired fireman handle our tasting and he did an exceptional job. It may have helped that we had a retired fireman traveling with us but I think he is good anyways. This is a beautiful Winery and always fun.

We were really looking forward to visiting Silver Oak but were extremely underwhelmed by our visit. It felt more like herding cattle, moving numbers through than any kind of informative, relational experience. The room was so loud we couldn’t hear our hostess, but she wasn’t giving much information anyway. The wines were pre poured and we were instructed to taste all 4 and give our feedback. That was it. We loved every other winery we visited. This was a big disappointment.

Had a really enjoyable tasting here last week. Ellen was a great host. I tried the Napa Cabs 2011 - 2016. It was really interesting to see the difference. These are big powerful wines. We also got to taste a Alexander Valley Cab which was softer than the Napa but was delicious too.
Everything felt very safe. Outdoor shaded setting with lots of room for everyone. If you like Cabernet Sauvignon, I would highly recommend a visit.

We had a very good time doing the comparison tasting between Napa Valley and Alexander Valley cabernet sauvignons. The grounds are beautiful and of course the wine is fantastic. The tasting experience felt a little disconnected but that likely had just as much to do with our personal preference on how tastings are conducted.
