About
Cultivated with passion and a singular vision, Opus One produces one ultra-premium Bordeaux blend a year. A collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Opus One arose out of passion. And beginning with the first harvest in 1979, every vintage of Opus One has expressed the vision and passionate spirit of its founders. Our goal is to create a wine of ultimate quality that reflects the traditions and innovations of both founders. Visiting the winery is by appointment only.

The absolute best wine tasting experience ever.
My two daughters and I visited at the end of June 2021. We signed up for the Opus One Experience, we received a vertical flight in the partners room, a bonus pour and a tour of the beautiful winery and barrel room. The server was Mark C and he was extremely informative about the wine and history of this iconic winery.
This tasting experience was like the old days when Napa went the extra mile to make their guests feel welcome.
Oh, and the wine was sublime. Great dark fruit flavors, velvety mouthfeel and rich, smooth tannins.
I realize that this tasting is higher than average Napa winery; but if you visit one high end Napa winery - THIS SHOULD BE THE ONE!!!!

Opus One Winery takes wine tasting to the next level. Our personal wine expert spent two hours with us, not only reviewing the wine, but also giving us a history of the winery, the architecture of the building, and a personal behind-the-scenes tour. The wine tasting was paired with an exquisitely crafted food menu to complete the experience. Just a wonderful experience all-around.

Great experience. Just when I thought I had hit wine fatigue, the wines here are not cheap but they certainly pack a punch. Worth the trip and teh cost! Best wines in the Napa Valley! Overall surprised at how inviting it is given the exclusivity of the label and cost. The service was warm and friendly.

After a gated entrance lined with lovely olive trees, your attention will be held captive by a modern building with some unique architectural features. We were ushered into an atrium before meeting our wine educator, Theresa. A brief tour ensued and then we were lead to our tasting room. The wines were AMAZING! We were able to try the 2012,2017,2019, and Overture expressions and we chose to purchase the sampler. The snacks paired well and really changed our tasting experience for the better. Although a cost of $200 per person seems steep, the value far supersedes other tasting options (such as Alpha Omega) for which we were charged $150 per person without any snacks and far inferior wines. Very much so worth the visit and it will set the bar for which you can compare other tasting experiences.

A visit to Napa Valley is not complete without a tasting and tour of Opus One. This winery set the bar high for the region when it was first created and it continues to push that bar higher.
How many wineries make just one wine…but do so with such care and attention that each vintage is better than the last? Conditions with weather obviously impact production, but here there is such focus on creating the best blend possible each year and it shows in the glass. Touring the winery is fascinating and a bit awe inspiring, too.
Views from all angles of the mountains and vineyards are postcard worthy, and the guided tasting is informative and made even more enjoyable by accompanying curated bites. A less involved tasting is also available….but if you are able the pairing experience is really worth your time. We enjoyed three vintages plus a glass of overture (a blend of the blends).
My husband and I had first visited Opus in 2017, and this time brought two couples who are good friends. We enjoyed this visit so much more than our first because of the pairings plus our host, Jorge and his wonderful explanations of the production and winery philosophy. It was a great addition to our five days in the valley!

Last week, six of us had a truly memorable "Opus One Experience” tasting. Opus One has positioned itself as the First Growth of Napa Valley and the wines are up to the task. Kevin Sheedy, our tasting guide, did a superb educating us on the history of Opus One, the changes over the years, the cépage, and the different vintages we tasted. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

May 2021 • Couples
My husband and I and another couple booked the Opus One Experience ($125pp). We were so excited and even more so when we pulled up to the winery as it is stunning! Unfortunately, our experience was rather boring and lack luster. The woman that did our tasting was socially awkward and just didn’t fit well with our group I guess. It was better when she just left us and let us do our own thing. The wines were good but certainly not worth the $400+ per bottle that they are. Or maybe they are but it wasn’t explained to us. We were overall disappointed with our visit and highly suggest so many other experiences and wineries in the area over this one.

We did the Opus one experience. Touring the Opus winery is like touring a well-decorated museum dedicated to wine. The tours are private, so there are no other people with you. The building and the surrounding land are incredibly immaculate, and it certainly stands out from all the rest. Terese, our tour guide, should be a storyteller. She gave us a great breakdown of the vineyard’s history and was an overall pleasure to spend time with. We ended up buying a few bottles and having them shipped home. Highly recommend going.

In Napa Valley, there is never a shortage of excellent wines to taste. However, due to the limited availability of tasting at Opus One, we would have to say that it was definitely an unparalleled experience. Where else are you going to taste multiple vintages of Opus One (you can add on vintages as well) and have a chance to compare it to Overture? Even if you are partial to either Bourdeaux-style and/or Napa-style wines, you will still enjoy this experience!

We went to 9 wineries on our trip, this is the only one I'm reviewing.
It's that good, and distinctive.
The attention to detail and little enchancements that really make this place shine. Oh, and the wine, it's not that bad :D
We came here first for our 15th anniversary trip, and while the other places were good, Opus made them look bad by comparison.
Our host was sat with two parties at the same time, so a manager (I'm guessing) stepped in to help out and ended up being our host for the whole time. From the card left for us to acknowledge our milestone, to the various options we were offered, through the amazing property, we could not have been happier.
This is a special occasion wine for us, but even if it was not, the experience will be treasured for as long as my memory holds out.

Question, is the tasting a "taste at your own speed" style or is a certain length like other wineries are? Trying to plan a trip and squeeze in as many places as possible so wasn't sure how long the Opus One tasting usual last.
Thanks,
Scott Windell

Our construction should be done early next year; we are hoping January. When we are close to opening, we will mention it on our website.

Is there any tour now given the construction works in the building? Or is it just the tasting? Can we walk around the estate to explore it?

Unfortunately, we are not offering any tours while the winery is under construction. We have a Tasting Pavilion set up in the vineyard where we are hosting both seated and stand up tastings. If you have a tasting appointment, you are welcome to walk around the grounds and enjoy the vineyards, but there will be no access to the production facility. We look forward to hosting you in our new tasting room once it's complete!

Yes, you can. But as the other review mentioned, it is better to avoid Highway 29 as much as possible because road shoulder is narrow and traffic is heavy.
If you don't mind taking a detour, assuming that you are cycling from Napa, there is a two ways to go.
The shorter approach is take Napa Valley Vine Trail, which is for cyclist and pedestrian only and then enter Yountville (via. California drive) and take Yourtville mill road. You need to ride on Hwy29 for 2000 feet or so. But it should be OK.
If you don't mind taking a detour (about 2 extra miles), I recommend taking Silverado Trail and then turn right onto Oakville Crossroad. Silverado trail is a local road and much easier to ride than Hwy 29. Also I enjoyed scenery.
