Founded in 1986, the California Surf Museum mission is to preserve surfing heritage. The museum hosts a variety of cultural events from book signings to lectures, to movie nights to concerts. But the museum is most known for the wonderful rotating exhibits about surf and skateboard culture, art, and history. The whole family is welcome and you don't have to surf or skateboard to enjoy the museum. The California Surf Museum has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine, National Geographic, the BBC, the American Pickers "California Dreamin'", Hawaiian Airlines commercial, PBS "Getting Away Together" and many more. Don't miss the outdoor Secret Spot and Bethany Hamilton's surfboard while you are here. Also, shop the Museum Store for unique gifts and souvenirs. Joining as a member is a great way to get involved in volunteer opportunities and to support the museum on an annual basis. Hope to see you soon!

We visited on a Thursday afternoon, not very busy at that time. Lots of interesting things to see. But the best were the "older" surfers coming in and sharing their stories!

Great little museum on the history of surfing with some skate stuff as well. The $5 admission is a great value. Great activity for a rainy day when in Oceanside

The surf museum is a good afternoon stop after a day at the beach. All the old boards are amazing and they are always playing a historic surf film. Makes me wish I saved my old stuff.

It is and interesting place to visit and learn the history of skateboarding and surfing in the Huntington Beach area. The people who greet you are friendly and answer questions.

This was a great experience. We live in Oceanside and are San Diego natives. I've been using Trip Advisor to find fun things to do with my son during his 3 week winter break from school and our visit to the surf museum was awesome! There's so much to look at and learn about. My son (6 years old) was... More

This place always has something cool to check out. Wether it's women on waves or a tribute to the 1966 World Longboard Championships. On point with all of their facts and history. These people live and breathe surf history! Attended their gala event for the 1966 Wolrd Championships won by Nat Young. Such a fun event, got to hang and... More

Stopped in at the California visitor center. They suggested we head over to Mission and check out the shopping and the pier. We decided to check out this small and dated surf museum. It's mostly old school.

You are struck by the openness of this museum right when you walk in. Expect to see and learn surf. Great displays, graphics but easy to understand eplanations and stories

I know little to nothing about surfing, so this was very interesting to see so many great displays about surfing history, as well as so many cool surfboards on display. I would imagine it's even more interesting to a surfing afficinado! Displays even include the actual surfboard that Bethany Hamilton was on when attacked by a tiger shark and lost... More
