Near the Thomas H Kuchel Visitor Center, the Freshwater Lagoon is in a great location that allows you to see the lagoon on one side of the road and the beach/ocean on the other side. You can go fishing in the lagoon or beach-combing at the beach right across the road.

You can stop and park anywhere along this stretch of road for free and walk, picnic, or beachcomb. You are seconds from the beach. Just be aware of north coast beach precautions. There are rip currents and cold water, don't go in! Be aware of sneaker waves if the surf is up. Years ago, campers used to stay here for... More

Love to drive and stop at the roadside, it's refresh and quiet. Been here to see the sunset, sometimes slow down your speed will take you a new world. If you want more exercises, just walk along the side/ocean.

It's so nice to put of nowhere see the ocean on one side of the road and the eel river on the other side. Love to pull over and take it all in, one of the best sites in the state hands down.

Freshwater Lagoon is a peaceful place to use small watercraft, such as canoes and kayaks, launched at the north-end boat ramp. This small lagoon -- really a lake now -- is accessed by a short dirt road exiting Highway 101 at its northern terminus. The peaceful, green, forested hills to the east are very scenic, and the bird watching is... More

This is a happy place for us. Good for fishing. 101 is too close for a dog. More characters. . .OK. Immense dunes across the road, and a very big ocean.

Nice place to stop and look around. Great for wildlife watching. Very peaceful. There is a hike we were unable to do that would be worth a look.

The lagoon is a nice sight from the highway but access is limited. I believe fishing is limited to the side away from the highway which looked like it was restricted to the homes on the far side.

This is one of my favorite short stretches of road to drive along. It is unique as Freshwater Lagoon is on the east side, and the ocean beach is on the west side. Only the road separates the two. As part of the Redwood National Park, you are allowed to take boats out onto the lagoon, and fishing is also... More
