There is just nothing like watching a good movie in the Orinda Theater. It is an historical building and reminds me of the movie palaces that I used to go to as a kid. The old loge seating is like stadium seating in the new theaters today, and the surroundings are so much nicer. Plus they have high quality movie... More

We attended the California Independent Film Festival here, and were positively charmed by this theater. We were greeted by what appeared to be the original, charming retro neon sign. Yet the interior was a work of gorgeous frescos. The seating was comfortable and the snack counter was welcoming. It was lovely.

It's common for families to head out to the suburbs to seek out movie theaters at malls with big box stores. These movie multi-plexes promise 3-D projectors and state of the art sound systems. But they lack class. Take your family and visit Orinda Theater, a classy theater in a small East Bay town. At night, the awning is lit... More

This is a wonderful, but relatively small theater with three viewing rooms inside. Every now and then they host a festival, which is grand. I especially like it because it is the anti-cine-plex experience. It's rarely uber crowed, how nice, and the folks who work there are swell. This theater is quite a distance from where I live but I... More

This theater is a solid 3.5 but I'm giving it the 4 star edge because of the old time-y feel. The positives: It is a classic theater. It has a very retro feel to it, when you walk up to it and in you feel like you're transported back in time. It's a fun experience. The theaters are also painted... More

Want to go to a gorgeous old movie theater with no one on it? We went Tuesday night at 6:30 to see the new Tom Cruise movie, Rogue Nation and there were only 9 people in the entire theater. It seats hundreds!!!! The movie theater has three spaces: the original one (which we were in) which seats hundreds and has... More

This is a great historical theater with first run movies. The seats are comfy, the theaters are cozy and the popcorn buttery and delicious. It's nice to walk around the shops or grab a bite to eat before/after the show. Be careful if you link to directions through Fandango, the GPS took us to the wrong location.

A great place to catch a movie and walk around town and enjoy all the restaurants and shops. The location is right in the middle of several restaurants and very convenient before or after a show.

I have always loved classic theaters and this is one of my favorites. The memorabilia in the lobby, the Art Deco style inside and out, the comfy/squishy chairs all make it a completely enjoyable experience. They have current movies and once a month a free Thursday with a classic. There is descent parking and good restatuants in walking distance to... More
