Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Officially, Minassian Young Winery was closed. But I asked a guy if he could help us and he did. Court is the Assistant Wine Maker at MYV and, accordingly, was even more helpful that the servers one would normally see here ... and more than welcoming.
On our tight time schedule we didn't even ask to sample the wine. As MYV Wine Club Members we already knew what we wanted to buy.
Court answered a few questions we had about our Club Account. He even said he was hoping to see us soon as he had a few questions about delivery and charge card numbers. Can you believe he actually knew our name? MYV is special.
I bought 3 bottles each of my favorites: 1000 Vines, Black St Peter, and Estate Zinfandel. I also bout a mixed selection of 3 others to round out my case.
I took some fresh pictures. The views are so beautiful.

Each time we visit Minassian-Young we are struck by the friendliness of the owners and staff. A relatively small winery, their Zinfandel is both excellent and very reasonable in price for the local market. They offer a limited number of wines, but their reds are particularly recommended.

Black Saint Peter is the wine to get. So good. Big Barrel Zin, is not bad either. Great prices, for really good wine. A scenic drive up Peachy Canyon, and you get to a quiet, comfortable winery with majestic views. The views feels like you are in a different country. No freeways, no houses, just vines, and hills. Staff is friendly and helpful. Never crowded. Great outdoor area. They encourage you to take your wine outside and let it breath. Take your time with the tasting. My sister is a member here and she usually brings her 3 kids. Good place for kids to run around outside. We've brought food, and sat outside, drinking wine, and eating our lunch. Great spot. Highly recommend for the wine, staff, atmosphere and the views.

Minassian-Young is essentially a boutique winery ... by estimate making only 5,000 cases of wine a year. They do not irrigate their vineyards, instead relying on whatever rainfall occurs to produce their grapes. The result is very small and intense fruit that makes for some incredible red wine.
I must admit that I do not fashion myself as a red wine lover. Many reds have too much tanin for my taste. I liken it to being slapped every time you are kissed. It would make you not interested in being kissed.
My first visit to Minasian-Young was several years ago. They were sampling 4 reds. Given my passion for Chardonnays I wasn't too excited about it. And then I started the tasting ... and every red was better than the one that preceded it! I bought all four!
So I made a special effort to visit them again. And again I was thoroughly impressed. But this time I bought 2 of each of the 4 reds they were sampling AND JOINED THEIR WINE CLUB!
All of their reds a very full bodied. You almost need to cut them with a steak knife they are so rich. One might also contend they are on the sweet side. But none of them have a tanin bite. But I'm willing to bet that for traditional Cabernet Sauvignon lovers it will not be what you are looking for.
Fyi. I bought the 2014 Old Oak Vineyard and Estate Zinfandels, 2013 Black Saint Peter, and 2012 Field Blend (60% Mouvedre and 40% Grenache) ... the last of which I am enjoying as I write this review. Btw, the last has a screw top while the other 3 have the traditional corks.
Given the low production of their wines, don't expect to find them many places. So make a point to go to this winery. You will be as surprised and delighted with their wines as me.

I favor zinfandel wines and have made it a point to seek them out for the past 51 years. The Minassian-Young zins are the best at any price and although they have increased greatly in cost over the past 5 years, we still will buy a case whenever we are in the area.
Peachy Canyon and Harmony Cellars make excellent zins but they need to be cellar aged to reach the point at which the Minassian-Young wines are within half the time. With Peachy Canyon in particular, decanting and letting the wine breathe for 2-3 hours before serving is worth the effort but with MY it can go direclty from the bottle to the glass and be enjoyed immensely.
What is unique to MY is there dry farming of the vines on land that had previously been dry farmed for walnuts, and the skill of their winemaker.

We were able to visit 10+ wineries during our trip and this was hands down our favorite. My husband and I have different taste in wine but both enjoyed this winery very much. Their dry farmed Zinns are AMAZING. We are from out of state, but are joining their wine club. Don't miss this winery!

This wineries' wines are a bit on the sweet side ... but they are SO delicious. We love them all.
Unless you are wine club members it is doubtful that you will ever see their wines. But if you get the chance to be a wine club member or order them online, do so.
One thing I discovered on this visit was that they produce some wines that are available at Costco and local supermarkets that are otherwise unavailable. Go for it! I will review a local Albertsons that is lovely but at a disgustingly lower price ... and NOT available at the winery. They are price-performers!
MYW is one of our favorites. I think you will enjoy it too.

Beautiful location! Off the beaten path, but well worth the windy road to this winery. Very friendly staff and knowledgeable! Excellent wines! If you are looking for high quality wines on a beautiful location, this is a must!!

We love this winery for their "almost sweet" reds. The Zins and Black St Peter are soooo smooth and rich.
We seldom are able to visit MYV though. It is inconveniently located far off the 101 Freeway and in central state. You typically are just taking the 101 from LA to SF or vice versa ... and have little time to try it. We were coming back from the Bay Area and wanted to break up the drive. What better way than a visit to Minassian Young?
The reds are fabulous. A bit on the sweet side but fabulous. No new news there. But MYV is now producing an unusual white (Alvarhino) and a Rose (made from 100% Cinsault) that are as good as they are unusual. Both are dry. The Alvarhino is a white "from the Rhine". It wasn't a sauvignon blanc, or a Chardonnay, or a Chenin Blanc, or a mix of any of the white wines you may want to classify it as tbeing. It is very different and unusual. But it is delightfully good. The Rose is the driest Rose you have ever had and subtle in both flavor and aroma.
We bought both (as well as all of their traditional reds). I like to vote for a wine by buying it. In this case I stuffed the ballot box!
Serve both of these wines nicely chilled to accompany a lunch. I don't see them as replacing my favorite dinner wines. But for lunch? Wow. I hope MYV makes more of them!
Fyi, we joined MYV's wine club because it is so out of the way ... as well as having such great wines. If I had one suggestion it would be for you to consider joining their club as you go to your first tasting there. It is probably the only way you will be able to get their wines and impress both yourself and your friends with it.

This small, boutique winery is off the beaten path, but definitely worth the effort. Beautiful setting at the top of the mountain with a great view of the surrounding mountains and vineyards. Comfortable patio to enjoy a picnic lunch and bottle of wine, and just relax. Incredible red wines at great prices. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
