Two rooms with some interesting local history. Who knew bottled water was a need in the gold mining times? Bottles were recycled too! There is a historic walking tour map. Ask about the two punishments for breaking the law.

Go to this museum for tourism advice on the weekends. The attendants are very knowledgeable and were excellent storytellers. They got us excited about the area and helped us plan the rest of our day.

Find out what Placer mining is and learn about how the gold rush affected this area. Don't bother with the walking tour of Main Street. I'd rather look around inside the museum, because Main Street isn't anywhere near as interesting as this building.

This is a very small museum with some interesting collections from local residents. There is a brochure of historical buildings that is offered, as well, if one is interested in walking through the town.

Quick visit, quick stop! Small but very informative on the town's history. Really enjoyed. It's free, just gave a small donation to help out. Really sweet couple working there as well!

The building and interior furnishings and pictures were informative and the docents knowledgeable of the early years of Placerville. All seem to be from about 1850.

This is a darling museum owned by and run by the El Dorado County Historical Society. Dry Diggins, then Hangtown, and now Placerville was the site of early gold rush activity beginning 1848 after gold was discovered 7 miles way at Sutters Mill in Colma,...More
