While we had a break in the rain, I decided to take my dog for a walk and enjoy our beautiful river trail. I parked at The big Turtle Bay parking lot which was quite full because the Redding marathon was that morning but I was able to get a spot without driving in circles. There were a lot of... More

10 Years ago it was a beautiful Natural walk along a gorgeous River. Dear and frogs could be seen and heard. You could bike, hike, run or any other form of activity with out nary a scare. These days, if you choose to walk the River trail, please bring you Concealed Weapon, mace, pepper spray, emergency whistle and a cell... More

And it seems everyone has the same idea! This place is always busy, bikers and skaters, dog walkers and families with kids - this trail sees them all. Even on the hottest days, it's still a lovely stroll.

Found this trail by accident. We were at the Sundial bridge then the arboretum. This trail was mentioned on the map. It took a few minutes to find the trail but once we found it it was beautiful even on a cloudy day. Lots of places to stop for a picnic. Fun watching the fishermen in the water and in... More

With fine weather, cycling this path to the north beyond the crowds, is amazing....you are transported to incredible landscapes along the Sacramento River and its reservoirs with rolling hills, wildlife and smooth paths maintained by BLM.

I visited this on Redding trip with 3 small kids and 2 total families last week. We took a walk on this trail for an hour on a day when it was cloudy and drizzling. Kids loved it, as they saw birds and ducks in river and lots of place to run around. Some decent spots for pics. I planned... More

The trails on both sides of the river are great for walking or bike riding. The left side heading north is flatter after you get to the first bridge north of the Sundial Bridge. You can ride a paved bike path for 13-16 miles all the way to the Shasta Lake Dam if you are in shape. Right north of... More

The River Trail is exceptional with a perfect combination of natural beauty, wildlife, seasonal flowers, berries, grapes, wild plum, and cool river temperatures to beat the Redding heat. From Turtle Bay Expolration Park to Shasta Dam and back is a challenging 35 mile fitness ride that is simply spectacular. Do not miss the Sacramento River Trail!

We decided we needed a little exercise and walked this trail for a bit and found a hand generated box with the local Indian language and a sundial and other informative plaques. Very nice and relaxing.

If I ever aspire to be a crime statistic, or want to count police cars and law enforcement helicopters, this would be a great place. Even if you leave without becoming a victim, it's hard to shake off the dirty feeling you came dangerously close to the gritty population that have done bad things to good people. Redding in general... More
