The beautiful American River flows over twenty miles through Folsom to downtown Sacramento, and the American River Bike Trail follows next to it. This paved nature trail is used extensively by bicyclists, joggers and walkers. The River is also used by rafters and fishermen. Excellent access points are at Hazel or Sunrise Blvds. Be a bit wary of the trail... More

We have walked, run, rode bicycles and even rode our Run4's on this bike path. It is well lit, clean, easy to get on and off and there are many people who go every day, so you get to know people when you are a regular. It's great for walking dogs, too. We have seen so much wildlife over the... More

The bicycle trail contains frequent views of the American River and is generally very scenic. The trail is somewhat hilly at the Folsom end, but levels out as you get closer to Sacramento. The paved path is approximately 6 feet wide the full length of the trail with gravel shoulders on both sides. It is not recommended to travel the... More

The American River Bike path is a continuous open space greenbelt along the American River extending from the Sacramento River to Folsom Dam (23-29 miles). This is really a jewel in Sacramento's crown. I have biked it many years ago and still enjoy walks along the pathway. I do not recommend traveling alone (walking or biking)...like everything else, people can... More

A wonderful trail that begins in Old Sacramento and ends 25 miles in Folsom. Imagine biking for miles in lanes designed for walkers and riders and not having to share the lane with cars. Please be aware that the lane passes near homeless encampments and the trail is fairly isolated Should you poop out at the end of the trail... More

Very accessible from all parts of town and beyond, it winds along the American River from Old Sacramento to Folsom. Approx. 8-10 ft wide asphalt with a divider strip for the bike traffic, it is approx 21 miles. It has a speed limit, but that doesn't hold the speed bikers back. However, there's all kinds of users, with all kinds... More

A walking and bike trail in the Sacramento area going from old downtown Sacramento to Folsom. Its about 12 feet wide and follows the American River. Usually very busy on weekend especially Spring through Fall. Hikers need to be aware of cyclists, especially very fast traveling bike groups. Hikers need to stay to the edge of the path and not... As others have said, you can't beat the experience. However, a word of caution re: lodging-choose carefully and stay away from La Quinta Downtown! Others on the same street offer more "Comfort" and can be "Best".

The trail has many of the qualities one looks for. It has the length for a long ride if you choose. There is a bit of up and down, curves, and scenery changes for variety. The paved surface is in good to excellent shape. There are plenty of access points. We also had several wildlife sightings, including a hawk with... More

This is such a nice experience walking or riding a bike on this trail. Lots of wild animals to see. Be aware of your surroundings though as there has been trouble from time to time.
