Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I'm a water lover, and this river is one of the pretty ones! Definitely worth stopping for, and I'll probably go back sometime soon!

I cannot begin to say how fabulous this is. I love this - I have been coming here for years and it never gets old. But be careful - the water can be cold ini the spring and the currents are dangerous. Be sure to bring floatation devices for children.

Nice area with fishing, trails to walk, birds/wildlife to see and just fun to explore. There are several access points. Fun to just explore, relax and enjoy the scenery.

The lower American River is a treasure for the Sacramento area. Great fishing, picnicking and wildlife watching. Nice place to relax for an afternoon.

it was still quite warm out when we visited, so this was a nice area to see and observe the people & boats on the lake.

Very nice riverfront with the land berms protecting the low lands around. Very popular for river rafting and canoeing. It's all pretty and good for the outdoors.

In high water you can explore the flooded woodlands along the banks, especially around Howe Avenue. It's not pristine and you encounter things you might need to tell the cops about but there are also many kinds of birds to be found along with turtles and riverside wildlife, particularly deer. In summer the best thing is to launch around Sac State and ride downstream, if you don't mind a wake or two continue onto the Sacramento and tour Old Sac from the water, Miller Park is an easy place to land and find the car or arrange for a ride home.

The American & Sacramento Rivers converge at Discovery Park, just North of downtown Sac. The Sacramento is fast moving and muddy but where to go to ski or Jetski. The American conversely is clear, flat water and slowly meanders down to the Sac River. About 3/4 of a mile or so upstream, the river shallows and boats are limited to 5mph. Upstream from there is great fishing for Salmon, some steelhead and chad. Millions of Salmon spawn up at the fish hatchery (home for them) near the Nimbus dam. Downstream from the speed limit is calm flat water the hundreds of boats cruise around on, party and people watch. Wildness does ensue. A few, to many boats will tie together creating a party island and the music cranks up.

Lot O Fun.

Due to all the rain, this area is currently flooding well over its banks. As a matter of fact, you cannot even determine where the banks of the river are. Normally this is a great area to walk and enjoy but not this month and probably not in February either.
