We have visited this campsite 2x's in the last month.... and I love it considering it's been freezing. Both times that we have stayed the campground is very peaceful and quite. Walk to the beach is a little further than expected but once you get there it is beautiful and calm. I have booked my 3rd stay here for February... More

I grew up at this beach...Every weekend throughout every summer, we camped here, fished here, body surfed. It was always clean, great place for families to visit and go camping for a summer holiday.

We came wanting to body board, but the beach is mostly large rocks and was not usable for us. Unfortunately, our $15 admission was wasted on a short visit and then on to Laguna Beach. This beach appears to be suffering in the summer of '16 from fairly severe beach erosion. There was very little sandy beach left and it... More

Long strands of beach that are located beyond the parking areas and sand dunes. Restroom facilities are scattered all along the parking areas

We were working our way up the SoCal coast exploring beach towns and hanging out on the beaches. Coming up from San Elijo State Beach Campground, we were so disappointed by San Onofre. Not only is the area/beach right next to the nuclear power plant, but the campsites are terrible. They are packed in, right on top of each other,... More

It was a wonderful half-day escape near OC. The beach was very secluded, therefore less crowded. Even with the Surfing World Cup coming up, it's still considered quiet compare to other popular beaches in OC. The water was exceptionally clear, you could see sand crabs moving among rocks between the waves. Because of the serenity, it's not hard to discover... More

Great local beach, old time San Clemente Feel. Love the laid back vibe and hanging with the locals. I would recommend for any out of town visitors or locals alike.

6 trails take you down to the beach. We always chose trail 6. It is the furthest south. At the parking area there is a public restroom. Follow the trail just to the right of the restroom and you will come to the bluff. There is a bench there where you can rest and take in the view of the... More

San Onofre State Beach has a few different choices (several day use areas and camping), so be sure what you want. Day use at the main surfing beach is our usual visit. Having been among the original "San Onofre Surfing Club" members since 1956, we have enjoyed this beach through 4 generations of family! That being said, it is important... More

If you are going to stay here you are going to need to get friendly with your neighbors because you are right on top of each other. Also, if you are a light sleeper, good luck. The train coming through the camping grounds every 30-45 minutes at a night is loud and woke me up every time it came through.
