- JBRetiredApple Valley, California485 contributionsHistory and beauty. Take the 1:15 tour.Like the other missions this one has its own unique look. This mission features an excellent museum and pretty but smaller garden. The church with its addition is quite large. Be sure to walk out front for another well kept area . If you can go on the 1:15 free tour it’s about 45 minutes and meets on the front steps. We had Maurice who was very informative.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 October 2023

- Michelle ARichmond Hill, Canada39 contributionsWell preserved Californian missionBeautiful old mission- well laid out museum Doesn’t open till 11am so plan accordingly. There is some limited parking on the property; we didn’t realize this and paid to park on the street. An hour should be enough time to look around unless you like to read everything on the museum plaquesVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 31 July 2024

This historic site is worth a visit, especially for those who love CA Mission and church history. Did you know that the mission was built here because they found an abundance of grizzly bears here (think creek flowing through it all with seasonal steelhead salmon). Check hours, the museum and gift shop were closed the 2 times we were in the center of town and near the mission, but we were able to visit the church and the grounds around it all.

It was unfortunate that when we were in the area that it was closed due to COVID. We were able to walk around the outside of it and hope to get back some day when we can see the inside. The area around it is very nice & lots of food places.

We had limited time but wanted to stop and see this Mission. We were late for the 11 am tour so waited for the 1.15 one (with Chuck) and he did an excellent job. One is always competing with the parking meter and have seen the meter maid give tickets so it is always wise to not default. Learned a bit about the mission and its activities.

Nicely situated, close to many other historical buildings....beautiful church that is still in use. Tour was pleasant and self guided for just a few dollars. Cute little gift shop with pleasant workers

We have visited nearly all of the California missions. Today, we were a tad late for the tour, but walked around the grounds. Then we opted to have dinner and went back after dark. Several homeless individuals were sleeping (or in sleeping bags) around the front of the mission. Made me a bit uncomfortable.

It is a Spanish mission founded in 1772 by Father Junípero Serra in San Luis Obispo, California. Named after Saint Louis of Anjou, the bishop of Toulouse, the mission is the namesake of San Luis Obispo. It offers tours of the beautiful church, gardens, school and small museum that holds a collection of its artifacts. It is open to the public every day of the year. Certainly would very highly recommend visiting this place, when in the area.

If you are anything like me you may be searching for a mission that your fourth grade kid can use as their own for the 4th grade missions project required for all students in California. With all the big name missions to choose from this little jewel is often overlooked. My son and I spent an hour there taking pictures and gathering information. If you are in search of something less run of the mill; this place may be just right for you.

Very small grounds at mission itself mostly landscaped. Don’t think they would appreciate pets. Plenty of other open areas in the San Luis environs

What time does it open and close on may, 21th, Saturday?
How about Sunday? Does it open?
