Beers brewed with a variety of different ingredients-appreciate the servers who can discuss the brews. Some inside seating, nice patio area-dog friendly. Food trucks some evenings and music or other events as well.

With many breweries to choose from in SLO, my daughter and I opted to have dinner at Bang the Drum Brewery because they also had a trivia night. We really enjoyed ourselves. The bar and outdoor seating area is very laid back. Terrific selection of beer and friendly staff. Being Aussies, we struggled with the round on American indigenous people, but we didn’t come last. All in all a fun place to visit.…

This was another stop on our grand brewery tour of life. We stopped in on a Monday before the 4th of July and it wasn't too crowded, but that's the way we like it. The bartender was super nice, wish I could remember her name. They didn't have too many on tap, but that means that they do those beers really well. I ordered a pilsner type of which I can't remember the name and H had a darker brew. They were both very good and we made our way out to the awesome patio, we hung out there for a bit then went inside since it was a little warm. I really liked this place and the beer and will be back many times when in town.…

Attended a private party here related to a wedding we attended. Very cool, unique place. Eclectic is a word that comes to mind. Not cookie cutter by any means. Talked with the folks working here quite a bit. They take pride in their fine products. Believe they are working towards getting a food serving license and guessing they are needing to cut through a lot of red tape.....but these places are better off if they can serve food ....so, good luck to them. Hope they get food rolling soon. In the meantime, stop by for some really superb beer!…

San Luis Obispo has no shortage of breweries for a city its size. I had the pleasure of visiting each of them and the smallest of all turned out to be fun and memorable regardless of its limited space. It’s Bang the Drum Brewery, located south of downtown, not far from the airport. Bang the Drum features a covered, indoor tasting area and outdoor seating section. It’s common to find live performers here and they usually have between 5 and 7 of their own beers on tap. They brew using a tiny one- half barrel system so they are constantly brewing to keep pace with demand. Bang the Drum beer is good overall. I liked the barleywine best- it is the strongest among the beers I sampled and it’s aged in bourbon barrels. It was complex and interesting. The other beers are also good in their own way. There is no food served by Bang the Drum to help wash down your beer, but it’s not uncommon to find a food truck on site so if you visit, there is a chance that food will be part of the equation. The atmosphere at Bang the Drum is interesting and they have done a good job utilizing the limited space. I learned that the owner used to make a living as an architect and his penchant for design is evident. The place is decorated with barrels, plants, pictures, and more. There aren’t a lot of seats, but that makes it cozier and more intimate than other breweries. It’s dog friendly, too, so you can bring your four legged friend along if you like, to join the fun. It’s not difficult to find beer in San Luis Obispo, California. The city isn’t that large, but breweries and beer bars abound and Bang the Drum is one of several. They might be small, but Bang the Drum takes pride in their small size and they welcome you to stop by and sample some beer. I liked what I saw and tasted and it’s definitely a place worth adding to your San Luis Obispo visitation list.…
