Reasonable place to take a break.

Clean. A bit close to the road for relaxed camping but amenities are sufficient. The beach is enjoyable for pebble hunting and a close walk.

We went to San Simeon State Park. It was a beautiful warm sunny November day. It was fun watching the waves as well as the birds. The Central Coast area is very pretty. San Simeon State Park has several places to turn off highway one to see the park. The park also has camping.

Nice campgrounds with a reasonable amount of space in most sites. Bathrooms and showers are closed due to the drought, so you have to use the porta-potties. The short hike via the boardwalk to the beach provides great opportunities to view the sunset. Some of the sites are close to the freeway and you get a lot of car noise.... More

We stopped here prior to our scheduled tour at Hearst Castle and were pleasantly surprised to watch two Humpback whales in action as they were feeding. It was a wonderful experience to see as we watched them in your natural habitat.

Kayak or sail board rentals. A beautiful cove to paddle out in. Periodic whales and dolphins to watch. Well worth stopping. See Cubby for rentals. A very pleasant guy.

Nice location, with two separate campgrounds. The Washburn Campground is up the hill, elevated a little hogher, with nice views. However, the Wasburn sites are a bit dusty, as in dirt roads. The sites are also less protected from the winds. The lower San Simeon sites are protected by trees, and have locations to get water and a dump stations.... More

In the morning, we drove north on the beautiful CA 1 route. We saw so many big elephant seals laying on the beach. Most were sleeping, a few were moving around...

My 17 year-old son and I were taking a week long backpacking trip around Big Sur in late August 2016. We had a few nights booked up at the Treebones Resort campsites and were planning on a 3 day backpacking trip through the Los Padres Forest. The Soberanes Fire made us change our plans. We now needed to find lodgings... More

A beautiful dense forest here with trails to traverse...everything in the state parks here now compromised by wildfires, so if hiking is your expectation, best to check ahead. California state parks are awesome!

We camped at San Simeon State Park in our travel trailer. It's a 5 minute walk to the beach with cliffs, sand, rocks and driftwood. In the morning, we walked in the morning marine layer. In the afternoon we laid in the sun. There are 2 areas to camp. A larger area closer to the beach and a smaller more... More
