My San Diego based sisters and I meet up in a Southland neighborhood every year. 2017 was Santa Ana and we had a nice visit to the Bowers. Lovely collection of California artists and exquisite ceilings from ???? They had an inspiring Imogene Cunningham exhibit going. I really liked the grounds; charming landscaping and gorgeous trees. We saw a brilliant... More

I am not an expert on museums, but I am so pleased that this museum has grown from a small local one, to a nationally recognized gem. I can't believe its in my backyard. Aside from local history, it includes many wonderful permanent collections of European and Asian art and artifacts. If you're visiting the OC it is a must-see.

Bowers has grown to a sophisticated world class exihibition location. The national and international art and historical objects exhibited are collections that change a few times a year so there is frequently something new. The permanent collects are comprehensive, interesting, and very well staged. Whenever you are in the area I recommend checking in to see the current exhibition.

The Bowers is a gem! The display of each treasure is fabulous. A true world class museum with the best gift shop! Whatever is on display you will have a great experience! Lots of attention to each item on display. A visit will be time well spent! The restaurant is one of the best in Orange County!

Enjoyed our recent visit to Bowers Museum, this facility is an iconic landmark in Santa Ana CA, where traveling exhibitions highlight many facets of education and illumination on subjects as diverse as the Jewels of the Nile, artifacts from the Ming Dynasty, or art that celebrates native California life. We enjoyed the recent exhibit of California's Bounty, where art that... More

I highly recommend checking out their website before you go for in depth information and resources. Get a group of 15 together and get $3 off the admission. The have a downloadable audio tour on the website! There are permanent collections of many art forms and then also special exhibits that come and go. There are workshops such as designing... More

If we lived locally, we would definitely become members of the Bowers Museum. We sensed that the museum is truly dedicated to diverse and stimulating choices in their programming. When visiting Orange County area, it's a good chance that if you check their calendar there is going to be a interesting exhibit or live presentation on a weekend. For example,... More

A good museum with varied exhibits and a nice (if noisy) cafe. But when you pay $6 up front for parking, the attendant doesn't tell you the cafe will validate your parking receipt so you can get your money back. (Cafe server says parking lot does that regularly.) So if you've left your receipt in the car, it's back to... More

This isn't a large museum, but does have interesting displays & is in an attractive building. Reasonable admission price. Note that in the winter it closes at 4pm

For a taste of California culture, check out the Bowers Museum of cultural Art in Santa Ana that's just off Rt. 5. It's worth a stop to see the California objects and architecture, such as the Ringling stone (see snap) found in the outside courtyard, Spanish colonial culture (e.g, the current Virgin of Gaudalupe exhibit), and an outstanding international gift...
