Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My daughter and I saw this tree while on an electric bike tour. It is a magnificent tree, although it's setting is not all that spectacular. Very cool that the city has maintained it for so many years. I would not make a special trip to see it, but it is a worthwhile water stop on the electric bike tour, which I enthusiastically recommend.

Its an arborus trek to get there, but it would be treesonous not to go. Acorny puns aside - we really developed chemistree with the location. Though honestly I’m stumped as to why this is number 7 on this list. Having said that it was very busy so they should really start another branch - i was green with envy with having to wait in the que. Tree.

If you happen to go near the train station, check it out. It's just a really big fig tree so don't expect it to change your perspective on life or anything. On the other hand, if fig trees are a really an important part of your life (REALLY?), this is probably a must see. In fact, if you're really into fig trees that much you should probably use its proper Latin name: Ficus macrophylla. This kind of tree is native to Australia. It turns out some Aussie seaman visiting Santa Barbara in 1876 gave this tree to some "girl" who then planted it. The circumstances surrounding why, in fact, this seaman gave this gift to the "girl' are shrouded in mystery. Was it in thanks for a night of whoopee? If that were the case then it might have been called the "Whoopee Tree," a much better name in my opinion. Of course the fig tree has to compete for your attention with the newly restored train station. Personally, I like the train station better, but clearly the fig tree and the station have formed a symbiotic relationship that, considering the gestalt of the situation, has formed a greater whole than just a fig tree and a train station. If you think about it, that's a pretty rare combination and the only one in Santa Barbara. It really would make more sense to call it the "Fig Station" or the "Train Tree." But maybe I'm reading too much into this ... I don't know. Go see it. Make up your mind, and then then you go try to write an interesting review of a fig tree. I sincerely hope you found mine helpful.

it's behind a chain link fence now, so tough to see. I wouldn't recommend going until they remove the fence.

It takes only few minutes to checkout the tree. It is planted in accessible road. It is a big historical tree.
It is nice to take photos and check it off your list.

You would be barking mad to leaf Santa Barbara without seeing this Tree!

We were so lucky to bump into relatives (cousins Paddy Lee and Dannie Soo). This tree literally helped us find our roots!

Thus, fig-uratively speaking, theres more historee here than you can shake a stick at!

On a negative, theres no transpiration here so you will have to make your way by photosynthesis.

In summary, its a tree.

Stopped by on our way back to L.A. being that the tree is fairly near the freeway. Sadly, we didn't get to see the tree during the daylight, and weren't able to really appreciate its immensity. My friend and I got there when it was dark, but even in the dark, we got a good feel for its gigantic roots, thick branches and humongous trunk.

We walked around the tree with our mouths opened trying to take in its beauty, its history, its age. When I return to SB, I will definitely return to this place to see the tree in broad daylight.

When I told my husband and boys that I wanted to go see the big fig tree they thought I had lost my mind! When we finally found it they thought it was the coolest thing! My boys are 10 & 16 and they loved visiting and seeing the awesome tree!

We read about this tree on Atlas Obscura and drove there one morning. There were a couple of homeless people and lots of alcohol bottles strewn nearby so be safe. But it was a very very cool sight to see!
