Our friends recommended the arboretum. It was the last thing we decided to do before we left Santa Cruz. We walked through the arboretum using their map. What a lovely experience. The kids enjoyed the 'strange' plants and especially the rabbits and quails. What was really nice was that we weren't expecting to see butterflies and there were Monarch butterflies... More

We started our day in Santa Cruz at the arboretum. There are several walks to take through their paths. They are different lengths. A lot of the plants are from Australia. It was nice to get up close and see the interesting blooms. There were several birds. The humming birds were the ones that stayed around in the trees. The... More

This is a wonderful exhibit for those interested in vegetation from the handful of mediterranean climates in our world. Road access is easy from High Street, Santa Cruz adjoining the UC campus. The arboretum is organized by geographic area, California, Chile, South Africa, the Mediterranean, and SW Australia with all their native plants, shrubs and trees well represented. Walkways are... UCSC Arboretum highlights South African, New Zealand, and Australian plants, in addition to showing our native California plants. The scientists and curators have for years developed exotic plants to make selected specimens from the UCSC collection practical to grow in California gardens.Truly, you can go around a corner and suddenly feel you are thousands of miles away from Santa Cruz.... I stopped by the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum today to see if I could get some video of our White Leucistic Anna's Hummingbird. Success! Please enjoy this rare footage.

Visited the UCSC Arboretum. They have a Hummingbird trail which is great. There are lots of Hummingbirds and other birds and animals to see. At $5.00 entrance fee, it's a cheap location to visit. There is seating around the area which allows you to sit and observe these tiny beautiful birds.

I think this must be my third or forth time coming here but I took a much different route. I was very successful shooting Hummingbirds. I am so impressed- I will go back tomorrow for more. If you are into Botany, you will be in heaven here.

An undiscovered gem with wonderful learning possible thanks to signs identifying plants and an entire explanatory area about hummingbirds. Try to come during the hummingbird celebration weekend. There is plenty of parking, since it is seldom crowded.

The sun had just broken through the clouds, and we were over-dressed. Being in the company of our children who had just been dragged round the campus, I was concerned that the hummingbird trail might disappoint. It did not! Mutiple Anna's hummingbirds, easy to spot, and awe-inspiring for whole family.
