Police cars driving up and down the pier with surf boards on the roof is a hoot, the place is great to take the family, roller coaster and Ferris wheel , heaps of places to eat and they still catch fish there ! We were in Santa Monica for 3 days and ended up there every day .

My husband and I really enjoyed it. Parking was close and a fair price. Walking down the boardwalk was beautiful and had lots to do. Lots of street entertainment and vendors selling fairly priced and unique souvenirs. We rode the wheel and roller coaster at Pacific Park also. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The beach was nice... More

Well it was for me. Pier was good and intact and forms the end of Route 66 so that made it interesting. Otherwise it was just the usual fair ground rides and attractions. Plenty of places to get food and drink. Parking nearby might be helpful for those who aren't staying nearby. Be aware of the number of homeless in... More

Perfect place to escape the craziness of L.A. About 20 mins from Hollywood is this seaside Carnival. The Santa Monica Pier is the official end of Route 66 and the sign is out on the boardwalk. The boardwalk has all kinds of souvenir stores, food vendors and sideshows . It is fun, vibrant and a great place to hang out.... More

We parked on the pier. When we were ready to leave I went to go pay for the ticket. I used my credit card to pay for it, but somehow it declined. Therefore, I paid with my debit and it went through. Today, I checked both of my bank and they charged me the parking fee on my credit card... More

I am 70 and grew up in L.A. Basically the pier is the same as 60 years ago with modern lights. Great just to be there but nothing special. Parking is difficult and rides are cheesy. In my opinion, it is better to just walk on the paths.

Employees weren't pleasant and the prices were steep. It was surprisingly clean though. The beach was beautiful!

We walked along the pier quite early in the morning and already the street performers and stalls were setting up. Was nice and sunny with nice views. Something you should definitely do while in the area.

Staying in Santa Monica

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.
