The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Santa Monica
Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers, roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier spins high above the water, while park revelers scream with delight riding the roller coaster. Inland from the beach, Third Street Promenade bustles with shoppers and street performers, where every block seems to have a musical or acrobatic act drawing crowds giving Santa Monica both the feeling of a laid-back beach town and a major commercial hub.

The Best Fish and Chips in Town.

We love the King's Head. It has been around forever and is a fan of locals and tourists alike. They have indoor and outdoor patio seating which is very nice when it is cool outside. The bar is great.

Located in Santa Monica, a block from the beach, there is a lot to do right near King's Head, they have a shop and a bakery for all things British. Down the street are more places to dine, a huge outdoor mall is a block away and you can walk to the beach if you want. It is a great place to start your adventure into Santa Monica.

The service at King's head is kind and pretty fast, but you are never rushed, even when it is busy. We love lunch there because there usually is no wait. In the evening it can get crowded, but a lot of that is for their great bar. The servers know their menu well and can help you out with any questions.

The food is great. Everything I have ever had there is perfect. I even love their coffee. Try the fish and chips, they are the best in the City. They come with tarter sauce and anything else you might like to add. They have two sizes, the queen has one piece, which I swear is enough if you are also having soup or salad. The king size has 2 pieces and even more chips.

Their New England Clam Chowder is so thick and tasty. It is the old fashion kind of chowder that your mom may have made, not thin, like some places. And it comes with a nice piece of sourdough bread and butter.

They also have Pasties chocked full of beef and vegetables. It has a great crust. Their salads are also very good, but not great.

The bar gets super crowded and you can play darts, pool, there is music, sometimes live. The bar scene is fun, but men, don't be such pigs, pee in the toilet not on the damn floor. And the staff needs to get in there more and clean. I had to take my grandson in there and it was gross.

The place is nicely decorated with all things British, but it is getting a little old and could use a good scrubbing. Despite that, go there because the food is great and the place is super cute. Have fun.

I was not too far away so I decided to try this place. I did have a few minutes to go to their store next door but they were closing. The pub looks as if it has been here for ages and it probably has. There was outdoor seating but I opted to eat inside. There was a lot of sidewalk traffic so it made sense to me to go inside. The menu has some British fare but there choices that would please anyone. I did fancy the Sunday roast but was not that hungry. Fish and chips won the day. It was crispy and a good portion size. The chips were freshly cooked. I did miss the mushy peas. There was a Scotch egg on the menu that I chose to take home for breakfast. My Mum used to make a mean rhubarb crumble and it was just recreated. I swear it was that good. I asked for it to go but had some before I left. It was so good. I had more when I got back to the hotel. There is some left for tomorrow. Service was friendly and helpful, it did help that she was English; who better to sell the food. I would have enjoyed a British beer but with having to drive on unfamiliar streets it was not an option. I think prices were reasonable.

A great pub. The staff were good fun and the locals were up for a chat. The buffalo wings and buffalo chicken sandwich were very good.

Overcharged

Beware of overcharging!! My receipt does not correspond with the credit card payment taken. OK - it’s only an extra $3 - but it was taken without authorisation. The same thing has happened to a colleague also.

Fantastic British Pub
Feb 2020 • Friends
Stumbled upon this place while walking down to the beach and pier area. Returned there later for drinks and dinner on the way back to the hotel. Have to say that as a Brit abroad, this was probably the best British style pub that I have seen on my travels in California. Atmosphere and ambience were good in the pub side, where we had a couple of beers and watched some people trying to play darts. Then we went through to the restaurant and were not disappointed. The steak and chips (proper chunky chips, not fries) was delicious and the chicken tikka masala was excellent too. Friendly British staff added to the enjoyment. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Santa Monica who wants a taste of England.

While on holidays in Santa Monica we visited the olde kings head pub and restaurant a number of times during our stay. We had both breakfast and dinner and found the food very good. The staff were very friendly and efficient.

Great bar

Located just minutes away from the beach the ye Olde Kings Head is an English pub, excellent choices of alcohol, a good olde English charm with great staff, well worth a drink or two.

Best “local” in Santa Monica.
Oct 2019
Our frequent visits to Santa Monica invariably include a meal and a shandy (beer mixed with 7Up or similar) at this authentic pub. I’m English and love their proper English breakfasts, replete with bacon, sausage, eggs, baked beans, grilled tomato, and fried bread. You can add a side of black pudding if you’re you’re really homesick! The decor and ambience makes it easy to imagine you are in England. The bakery fulfills our longing for Cornish pasties, sausage rolls and scones. We stock up on Marmite, English mustard and English toffee from the well-stocked gift shop.
