Awesome wines and an education to boot!

We've visited Imagine Wine's tasting room many times over the years, both when it was in Santa Ynez, and now in Buellton. Every time we go, we leave with excellent wines (the zinfandel is simply amazing) but also with a deep respect for the owner/wine maker Ross Rankin. Ross's knowledge of wine is phenomenal, and he happily shares it with a quick wit and enthusiasm. We always look forward to his pouring of wine and tolling us more about it. What a great combo: fine wines and great insights!

Very nice tasting room

It was worth the $10 tasting fee to sit at the small bar and listen to some of the interesting history of the area from the Imagine winemaker. A very good conversationalist to say the least. I am afraid that I did not agree with him that the wine being left in the barrel for six years made for a better tasting wine. But that is just my opinion and I am no expert. The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon for $50 was just all right. My wife and i did like the 2013 Barbera for $30. It was the best Barbera wine that I have tasted in recent memory. The tasting room is located in Santa Ynez, which is a picturesque little town a few miles east of Solvang. Several excellent restaurants nearby in the town. Street parking in front of the tasting room.

The wines were spectacular! Especially the "panty dropper" (name of the wine). But the art inside this tasting room is a must see!! The owner's son carves amazing stone figures! You have to see the lips he carved & the wings & the hand. The owner was great & very friendly! Dont miss this lovely room!

Boutique winery, small batch

Winemaker poured, extremely knowledgeable and Ross poured 2007, 2008 where most wineries were pouring 2010, 11 or 12. Ross' tasting room doubles as an art gallery, displaying beautiful sculptures by his son, a very talented artist. His tasting included a Viognier and a Paso Robles Cab. Ross' labels were very unique with vintage Beaux Arts nudes.

Cozy and Friendly

Imagine Winery's tasting room is located on a side street in Santa Ynez. The room is of moderate size and well decorated with landscape art and attractive sculptures in white stone.

The server was pleasant and well-versed in the wines. The tasting included six wines that were mostly dry reds with a variety of flavors. They ranged in body from light to robust.

Worth a stop on local wine tour.

A very nice small wine tasting room near the Chumash casino

We spent the weekend wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley. This place isn't large, but it was really a pleasant experience. Not only does the owner (Russ) have a nice selection of art for sale, including some decent plein air oil paintings, and a few marble sculptures done by his son, but has some really nice wines. There were 5 of us, and one other couple at the other tasting table and Russ seemed to enjoy his time with us on Monday. He has a great story, and like those stories, his wine seems to be a little different than most of what we experienced at some of the other wineries. He spends the extra time keeping his wine in oak. He has some different goals with his wine than most wineries which costs more, but I really loved the Zinfandel and his wasn't any more costly than that at most other wineries (I had to buy the Zin). If it is really crowded you might not get the level of attention in any small winery, so keep that in mind.

Very Friendly

Very friendly. Wine maker was pouring. Very knowledgable. Luckily it wasn't very crowded or you probably wouldn't have great service. Since there were only a few of us in there, we got a lot of attention. He liked to talk a lot but made the visit fun. Very big on customer service. Wine was good. Bought a few bottles. Also, unlike some other tasting rooms, this one had a rest room.
