Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We live in the desert so strolling through neighborhoods of people living on the water was very different! It brought back memories of hippy days of living the dream free and easy - although I do not think this is a cheap way to live for these people. Each place was very indiviualized - it was fun to imagine how these people must live on these floating homes!

We went to Sausalito and saw the amazing assortment of house boats. Many of them even have nice garden areas. This is a scenic area in the San Francisco Bay Area. This area is known for its house boats.

This was the first time I have seen homes like this that are really floating full-time homes of many of the local residents. There were some that were quite elaborate and others that needed some help.
BOTTOM LINE: Worth stopping and seeing the dozens of homes tied up on the various pier docks in Sauslito. Would love to see this area during the Christmas holidays with their Christmas lights all on. MY RATING: 7/10

Brings back memories of several movies. There aren't too many places in the world to see and romanticize this style of living. Fun to see.

I just happened to be driving by this area and had to stop and check out the many unusual designs. It was a fun diversion from my intended destination.

These unique residences are one of the city's most famous features. We went to a party on one a while ago. We wandered past this time. Some very special architecture. Some are available for short-term rentals.

We strolled the “boardwalk” which is slightly confusing as there are no boards. If you go down Gate 6 road and turn left there are lots of floating houses with very artsy feel. It’s a beautiful little community but people were not friendly.

If you have seen the houseboat show on t.v. where you see areas with people living on them you must stop here for a view, and a look at them.. When we went it was low tide which was interesting to see how they come out of the water when it is out. There are many that are very interesting, and it is a large area on the bay in Sausalito. We met some people who loved living there, and the docks with the boats, and succulents in pots, and flowers were also stunning. It is a huge area and be careful where you park so watch the signs. Don't know what the dock fees are but there is city sewer, water, according to the people we met. What an amazing way to live but probably not very cheap is our guess.

House Boats seems to be a West Coast tradition as Sausalito and Seattle are the only place I have seen them in my travels. It is a unique way to live and Sausalito has amazing views across the bay to San Francisco. However when the tide is low sometimes the houseboats are no longer floating....

Nothing says Sausalito like the houseboats. A unique alternative lifestyle of such romantic beauty. Who wouldn’t want to take your morning coffee, floating surrounded by sea and sunshine. Get out your iPhone camera and take photos. I even meet a professional photographer capturing this scenic beauty. I had breakfast first at the Bayside Cafe and took a relaxing tour of these floating homes. Gotta catch the am play of light and shadow, One of my most enjoyable moments of Sausalito
