I popped in here after a bicycle trip from SF to Sausilito on our Summer holiday. I love vintage photos and this shop had a great selection, especially sports. I live in Dublin so I was unsure if I could ship them home. The owner, I assume Mark Reuben, suggested I go to the post office just down the road. So I bought 3 photos and left my friends and family as I walked down the road. Not sure what his definition of 'just down the road is' but it was over 30 minutes walk, so I was gone for just under an hour as I got a Uber back. When the photos arrived I ordered frames for them but it was only when the frames arrived and I unpacked the photos that I saw how badly the gallery had mounted the boards. They were totally misaligned and not flush, which meant they were longer and wider than they were supposed to be and so didn't fit the frames. I wrote to the gallery and I got the most dismissive response, no sense of regret or apology for the poor workmanship (all three were the same so I doubt it was a one-off) and certainly no sense that any financial restitution would be appropriate. I would say avoid this shop or at best use it to browse for a cool photo and then buy it online! Everyone is going to make a mistake but it is how you respond to the mistake that makes or breaks a shop and Mark Reuben failed miserably.…

Dear David, I am sorry you ran into difficulty. In framing the historical photos, we mount on acid free foam core to maximize the quality. Unfortunately the foam core is a little thicker and one should wait to have the artwork before buying any frame. I am glad the post office was successful In mailing your package and now you Finally have the pieces looking beautiful Framed on the wall Come by again and I wlll give you another print Free and lend you a bike from our fleet of bike rentals so you can go to the post office 1 mile down the road We try and make sure the photo Is perfectly mounted and titled Come again for that free print Sorry if the board overlapped a fraction Again I am glad the artwork is up on Your walls, enjoy

We were heading to catch a ferry back to San Francisco when a large, framed, black-and-white photograph in this gallery’s window stopped me in my tracks. The dramatic image showed an earlier-era Cliff House in San Francisco perched on rocks with a black cloud overhead and a bolt of lightening brightening the sky. I went inside to determine what the cost would be unframed and to look around. I found a wonderful treasure trove of large, matted, black-and-white photos, originally captured years ago. There were entertainers, such as James Stewart (autographed); politicians, such as the young Kennedy brothers — Bobby, Ted and Jack — standing together; and evironmentalists Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir in Yosemite, taken in 1900. Sports figures ranged from boxing greats to track-and-field personalities. Other genres included history, landscapes, prohibition, women in history, the West and the list goes on and on. I especially liked the wonderful vintage photos of San Francisco and thought that all that I looked at were of high quality. I was greeted soon after entering the store and invited to look around. There was no pressure to buy. About five others wandered through the small area at the same time. Alas, I only could stay for about 10 minutes because of the ferry schedule. But I noted that photos can be mailed, and I can’t get the Cliff House out of my mind.…
