Loved visiting Sonoma Valley and compared to Napa it is less posh and more authentic. People are passionate about the craft of winemaking and it is less about being fashionable. Certainly the smaller wineries are worth visiting.

We spent 4 days in Napa/Sonoma Valleys. We definitely preferred the Sonoma Valley because of ease in getting around, availability in parking and shopping. We visited in November, but area was lovely.

We liked that this area is somewhat "condensed" and has beautiful views and plenty of wineries and things to do along the way.

Another road trip for another day...Napa Valley, Anderson Valley are two others to consider. You can't go wrong!

I have taken two 10 day trips this year and last to Sonoma and Napa. I love Sonoma, it is more laid back and less crowded than Napa. The wineries are less expensive too. I would agree Napa probably has a larger amount of better wineries but Sonoma has some great wineries too... especially in the Alexander Valley and Russian... More

From the vineyards selected not as good as the Napa valley. A very pleasant drive and an interesting town.

Some people think a trip to the wine country as let's go to the Napa Valley. Sure Napa is nice but heading to Sonoma Valley should be considered as your first area for exploration and wine tasting. If you are in San Francisco travel to Sonoma is closer than Napa. Check it out on the Waze app. Wine tasting is... More

If you are debating weather to visit Sonoma do it. If you are debating weather to visit Sonoma or Nappa - visit Sonoma. One of the, if not the nicest place I have ever visited.

Its one one the quaint historical towns in California that has wonderful hiking trails, great wine, good fun restaurants and a casual atmosphere. The historic plaza, old art deco theatre and Mission are must sees! If you have time hike up the overlook trail where you can see to whole valley, and all the way to San Francisco on a... More

Though the traffic can be a drag, the drive on Highway 12 through Sonoma Valley is a year-round treat. Just a little rain in the fall turns the grass fields a vibrant green; it's a beautiful contrast to the autumn colors of the vineyards.
