The Bob Hope Theatre, known to some locals as “The Fox” is an exciting entertainment destination and a beautifully restored piece of Stockton’s history. The recent renovation has created a wonderful space to enjoy not only local arts productions, film, dance, comedy and Broadway type entertainment, but also the latest in top name musical entertainment. In 1929, Fox West Coast Theaters invests nearly half a million dollars to build a luxurious, safe and comfortable theater - the Fox California, or the Fox. The opening of the Fox on October 14, 1930, is one of the most grandiose events in the region. The Fox is the largest vaudeville house in California, with 2,170 seats. The theatre is also one of the safest buildings of the time, built entirely with cement and steel, with the ability to evacuate guests within two minutes. One of the jewels of the theatre is the $40,000 (in 1930) three manual Wurlitzer pipe organ with twin pipe lofts. Fully renovated in late 1990s and early 2000s, the theatre changed its name to the Bob Hope. Visitors can enjoy rich wood carvings and murals in the lobby and the main chamber. The original water feature in the lobby was replaced with a water-themed marble mosaic. A 1928 Robert Morton theater organ, which was last played in the Seattle Fox Theatre over 50 years ago, was restored and donated to the theatre by The Friends of the Fox. Organ concerts take place before classic movie showings which are featured on the 2nd Friday of the month throughout the year.To take a tour of the theatre contact 209-337-HOPE or 209-464-5246.

My husband and I went to to Russian Ballet doing Sleeping Beauty in October. The theater was so nice. We love the atmosphere and the ballet. It is so nice to have a quality location for shows close to home.

It must have been decades since we have been to the this former Fox Theater. After it has been through major renovation and change the name to the Bob Hope theater, this place looks gorgeous; bringing the memories of yesteryear. We visited Bob Hope theater to watch a classic movie. It was like taking a trip back in time. The... More

I'm 69 and been going to this venue since I was 8. My parents took me to see Fantasia there. It's a beautiful old Fox theatre with great acoustics.

While the interior has been beautifully restored, the air system seems to have been neglected. We were there is early summer for a graduation and once the seats were filled with warm bodies, it was a sauna. Seating is comfortable, the view from back rows is decent, restrooms are close and easy to locate. Staff was friendly and helpful. Parking... More

I have seen Brian Regan, BB King, Vince Gill, Gallagher (that dates me a little!), Merle Haggard, Jamestown Revival, and have even experienced college fall prom events there.

The Bob Hope Theatre is a great place to catch a concert. Even though it is a much smaller venue than the local stadiums, I prefer it here due to 2 main things: There are no bad seats here and you can watch a great performance without having people smoking pot all around you, like they get away with at... We came here to see blues guitarist and vocalist Joe Bonamassa. It was an awesome show in a very nice venue. The theater has been recently renovated and is lovely to look at. Our seats were in the upper balcony. I did have some difficulty with leg room and had a very large man in front of me. I noticed... More

I have seen a live performance by Stockton's own, (at this moment his name slips my mind) but I truly enjoyed the show, but most of all I enjoyed my memories of the Fox Theatre. The magnificence of architecture and artistry of such a beautiful theatre. Every person should experience Bob Hope Theatre, for yourself, family and friends.

It's been renamed the Bob Hope theater, But it will always be the Fox to me and everyone else born in Stockton ! This is a wonderful theater seat a bit over 2,000 people, it shows a more prosperous time when builders were craftsman rather than nail pounders they took pride in their work. I went with a friend to... More

I've only been here for a couple of different events, but have enjoyed both times. The Bob Hope is a wonderfully restored old theater. It's nice to be able to travel back in time a bit when entering the lobby, and then into the theater itself. The facilities are clean, the staff friendly. The only downside is that there's not...
