About
For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back style, Northstar California Resort combines California cool with high-end luxury, on-mountain exhilaration with a sophisticated alpine village atmosphere. Halfway between one of North America's coolest mountain towns and one of the world's most beautiful alpine lakes, Northstar is a destination on the rise, having poured nearly a billion dollars into creating Lake Tahoe's premier luxury snowsports experience. Upscale shops, refined dining and Lake Tahoe's only five-star slopeside lodging is married to impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and enough variety to challenge every level of skier (and world-class terrain parks to keep the kids busy). Those who come to Northstar know what they're looking for. Sometimes it's adventure, sometimes it's to learn, sometimes it's to relax in a welcoming place with family and friends. No matter what that experience is, they'll find it to be exactly the way it should be.

Beautiful Resort

This is a gorgeous location and it is a pleasure to see the mountains. Lovely at any time of the year. I love the ice skating rink in the winter, affordable winter sports. And it's a good place to spend the night.

One of the best resorts EVER
Jun 2021
This upscale resort and community is one of the best I've stayed at. It is incredible, from amenities, to grounds, to an extensive trail network within, bike park, and activities. It's quiet and beautiful, a gem really. We will be back!

Great room, poor customer service, two gentlemen at the check in time were unprofessional
Apr 2021
I was a walk-in guest without reservation. I asked the front desk staff about amenities before making reservation. I was explained about all the amenities resort has to offer and it met my needs. I booked the 2 bedroom villa on the third floor in the recent renovated building. We really enjoyed the size of the room. Room was clean and had everything you can ask for. My daughter was especially excited about the pool. When we went to the pool, it was closed. When I questioned front desk about the pool, they had no idea about pool closure. Big miscommunication between staff. If I was told that the pool was closed, I would of find a resort somewhere else. In the morning we’re rushed to check out even though we were couple of minutes late. (Hotel was nearly EMPTY). When I came down to check out, I explained the pool issue and the hand sewing needle that I found on the floor next to the bed. Luckily none of us stepped on it. The front desk staff, seem as they were not interested what I had to say.. Resort is good for families, clean rooms, but guests need to be aware of any closures before checking in.

Great resort, lots of mid-level trails. Didn’t care for the whole “everything is on the website” experience. We couldn’t even buy tickets at the counter without first going through 10 minutes of buying them online first. There are no signs that mention this, so when we got to the counter, we were turned away. Although the line was quick because it was midweek, we were pretty pissed we had to wait in line again.

The trails are very groomed, not a lot of natural snow.

Wide variety of runs off fewer lifts (less traversing!)
Jan 2021
I like Northstar a lot because of the many options you have once you get off the lifts, and I don’t feel like I am skiing / traversing from lift to lift all day to vary up the runs. The line for the Comstock lift is always long, but you can take Zephyr (which has a single riders line) to get to the backside, and you can take backside lift back up to Comstock (Drifter is a steep blue).

The best break spot is the Zephyr lounge at the top of Zephyr lift. It’s never crowded and there is no line for the bathroom. (There is also a sitting area, but you cannot eat or take off your mask while inside).

My favorite runs are Luggi’s, off Comstock, or Upper to Lower Pioneer off Zephyr (very tame blues).

Once the free parking closer to the gondola fills up, they will direct you to additional parking at the bottom of the hill. The shuttle runs pretty regularly.

Also, if the line for the gondola is too long, take the Village Express lift. If you get there early and park in I believe the “D” area, you can take Home Run all the way down to the parking lot, but Home Run can get very icy and rocky if conditions are not good.

Ruined by covid policy - stay home

Wait until covid passes.... It's so depressing. Everyone is going through the motions but it's so obviously substandard.

Very poor

Wow....so very aware of Covid protocol, but so disappointed in Northstar. Bought a season pass and didn't expect them to not open lifts even though 6" of new/groomed terrain, to preserve the snow for weekend crowds even though with Covid, crowds are more if not worse during the week now (lines up the hill and people crammed together because they didn't open more expanded lanes). Plus the prices for food ( amost $14 for a cup of mac n cheese) and lack thereof, and lack of any propane heaters outside have left me at a loss. Plus the attitude from staff, mind you I wear a mask continuously and am very respectful of their situation, but won't be getting another pass anytime soon. Hate to say goodbye to my favorite place in Tahoe. 😪

You can come here to dine, shop, ice skate, and even ski or snowboard. If you are looking into places to ski in this area, northstar is the best place.

Terrible customer service.
Nov 2020 • Solo
My first day snowboarding, my binding broke. No place on the mountain was open for repairs or to sell me a whole new set of binding. But of course they would reny me a board. Horrible customer service. Lorrie, one of the managers, was not very polite at all when I was trying to figure out options.

Don't plan on getting any real help from employees. Instead of maybe looking for a local shop because they couldn't do anything they said "you can check in downtown Truckee." Thank for nothing Northstar.
