Nestled in the open space in foothills of MT Diable is a treasure of the old west. Beautifully preserved this ranch offers kids a chance to see life in early farming and settlement. Goats, chickens, sheep their to be touch and loved. My grandchildren would rather go here than any park or amusement place.

It's worth the drive to the outskirts of Walnut Creek to visit the Borges ranch. There are wonderful trails to explore. Be sure to have a map - or check in with the ranger for suggestions.

We take our city raised grand kids and they are happy. They even ask to go. While they pey the goats and chickens or chase lizards, we enjoy the quiet, and the hummingbirds in the flowers around the restored and antique furnished historic Borges home. The kids also enjoy sitting on ancient tractors and the barn is now more museum... More

A wonderful stroll back in time. There are animals wandering this picturesque ranch. I've been there several times but never been able to enter the old home that remains, but perhaps a special tour can be arranged. In any case, you can peer through windows into the house (unoccupied and staged w/ period furniture and amenities). There are some farm... More

I give this an excellent rating in part because of its location, at the foot of Mt. Diablo and Shell Ridge open space. It is worth it to hear the ranger talks, and then take a hike or picnic in the nearby open space. In warm weather, there are rattlesnakes, but not at Borges--but on the trails nearby.

This farm is a piece of history with all its hands on equipment and the ability to wander among the farm animals.

Borges Ranch is set up as a visitors center with almost all of the original buildings that were the main buildings of an active ranch. They have an onsite Park Ranger, who maintains a wide variety of animals for view and enjoyment. There are hiking and horse riding trails through out and BEST of all, You can see all the... More

A wonderful place to get away from the crowded confusion of Walnut Creek. The ranch buildings evoke an era of self-sufficiency and simplicity. I go there to sketch and often see other artists painting in the area. It is a good jumping off point for a couple of trials. Not recommended on the hottest days, but very pleasant the rest... More

Borges Ranch is a great place to hike, in many directions. Connects to Mt. Diablo trails, and many other regional trails. Especially beautiful in the Spring.
