Neighbourhood: West Hollywood
For years, West Hollywood has been known as a hub for the LGBT communities in Los Angeles. Today it still maintains the title, but has also become the “it” neighborhood for the entertainment industry’s up-and-comers. Producers, directors, writers and aspiring actors call this area home. Known for great boutique shopping, vintage clothing stores, home décor shops and fitness studios, West Hollywood is a grid of wide boulevards and narrow residential streets. The neighborhood also has a concentration of the most avant-garde restaurants in Los Angeles (rivaled only by the burgeoning restaurant scene Downtown). A trip to the iconic Sunset Strip, with its many clubs, music venues, hotels and flashing lights won’t be forgotten.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a cool and iconic sunset strip music venue!! Two levels of music. The downstairs features a very intimate option in comparison to the main floor. Great variety of current music talents.

I didn't actually go in,but back in 1996 my mates and did a 3 week tour of the West coast.
Whist in Los Angeles, my mates decided to visit Tower records on Sunset boulevard.
I got bored so took a wander, and accidentally found The Viper Room
This was only 3 years after the passing of RP.
Always regretted not going in.

Went with a friend who lives in W. Hollywood, so the walk to and from the Viper Room was an experience in itself. Of the hundreds and hundreds of clubs I've been in, I thought the Viper Room rated right up there. The wait was about an hour, and the doorman was quite entertaining. They had an excellent sound system upstairs. Johnny Mar (Mars?) was playing the night we went and, although it wasn't my type of music, I really enjoyed it. Then we went downstairs to the smaller, more intimate bar and the only disappointment, aside from Johnny not being there (!), was that the music was piped in and way too loud, I thought, so that even though you were in this intimate setting, you had to yell to be heard. The next day, I went through my wallet and pulled out a fake $20 that someone had passed me at the Viper, but that could have happened anywhere. All in all, it was a great experience and a fun night!

I attend concerts all over the world--from A+ orchestra venues with world-renowned orchestras to little holes in the wall for local grunge bands. Last night, my husband, son, daughter-in-law and I went to see The Real MacKenzies at The Viper Room. I have no idea what's wrong with their sound person, but he blows. The worst mix I have ever heard. Beyond horrific. And my husband just found an article online from 4 years ago, written by a musician who has played there, talking about this very thing. The Viper Room doesn't care. In addition, the room upstairs is very small. Moronic, drunken sots decided to make the room a mosh-pit. There is no room for this there. No security. No containment. My daughter-in-law got her ankle kicked so badly she couldn't walk and my left foot got stomped on, it's swollen today--and we had moved away from the stage to avoid this. The "game" seemed to be to push the moshers back towards the stage as they drifted further and further afield. It was dreadful. It was dangerous. Go to The Whiskey, The Palladium, McCabe's--but steer clear of here.

Johnny Depp owns it...so we thought sweet. I was down the st. at the Valdon Hotel. We went there and the bartenders were lame, the drinks were tiny, the house band sucked and it was so small.Plus I had some gay guy try to dance with me and I turned him down so he told me to get over myself!!! it was so retarded.

Lovely manager who allowed us in to take photos & showed us downstairs to VIP area where River Phoenix was on the evening before he died. Nice club originally owned by Johnny Depp, happy hour each evening, groups live on stage, mainly good tribute rock bands.

The Viper Room is an intimate night club where you can get up close to the performer.
Get there early and you can park in the small parking lot in the back. The building is a little misleading the entrance is on the side not in the front.

Visited the Viper room due to its legendary status and it was a really fun night out. We visited and watched Bravo Delta, Future Villains and Dead End Sky. Sound quality is superb and there is a great ambience in this venue.
Only drawback for me was the cost of drinks. Granted it is on the sunset strip but you'll need a few extra bucks for a night out here. Would highly recommend for top quality on demand live music.

My first night in Hollywood I decided to check out the viper room. Saw the doors cover band “Peace Frog” there. Amazing band. The staff is friendly and awesome to talk to. Would definitely make a trip back here. Fantastic place.

What time is happy hour during the week and does anyone know of an inexpensive place to park nearby?
Written 3 March 2020
We were there in Dec. 2019 and stopped into the Viper Room around 6pm before seeing a show at Whisky A Go Go and had happy hour. Draft beer was around $5.00 ea. I believe. We were the only few in there but the sound guy there said it would be standing room only when the show started later. It was cool. The downstairs bar was not opened at that time.

Go when just opening about 4.30 there was a happy hour, seemed to be on daily, beer we don't drink so have no idea but there seemed to be a popular draught that was being ordered & drunk .

I'm on a wheelchair. Is the venue accessible? Are there particular tickets for people with disabilities?

When will The Viper Room ever sort their sound system out? It has to be undoubtedly the worst setup I've heard! The sound engineer appeared to be either deaf or seriously off his dial, it takes away all the hard work and energy the band's strive to put across to the crowd! As a professional session/ touring guitarist I was gutted at the lack of sound equipment and experience for an establishment boasting top acts!!!
My question is what other venues would you suggest other then that earache?
