Simply put, the refuge is a treasure. The variety of birds one can see (at least in the winter) is jaw-dropping. Also impressive are the opportunities one has to either walk or drive. I can't say enough about the staff in the visitor's center as...More

We did a drive through and the waterfowl was amazing. Many species of geese and duck. Also saw many hawks and several eagles. Great place to spend several hours enjoying the outdoors.

I cannot say enough good things about this place, the facility, the staff, the volunteers, the grounds, and the incredible array of nature's creatures you can see. Do try to allocate at least half a day for your visit, so that you can check out...More

With the wet winter and the colder weather up north, the snow geese arrived here earlier this year and they are here in vast numbers. When they fly in or out, they create a huge cloud in the sky, which is an impressive sight. In...More

When we got to the Refuge we went to the visitor center first and view a film on the work that went on making it a place of safety for both wild life and the person viewing it. We proceeded to go on the Auto-Strech...More

Beginning in mid-August, the northern flight of migratory waterfowl begins to arrive at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The migration of vibrantly colored ducks, and snow-white geese is a sight to behold. The migration peaks in October, as northern regions ice up and by...More

Wonderful spot to visit during the wet season (~Nov through Apr) if you enjoy birdwatching, waterfowl, and wetlands. Easy access off I-5 and a beautiful bit of natural tranquility in an area that is otherwise a monotonous agricultural void.
