- SouthSeasAmericanLuganville, Vanuatu336 contributionsImpressive, but CrowdedWe went to Boulder Falls on Saturday of Labor Day Weekend, so of course it was crowded. We parked on the shoulder of the highway well back from the parking area. The walk along the highway was rather dangerous. The trail to the falls was very crowded, but easily negotiated. The falls were not more or less impressive than other mountain waterfalls I have seen, but they are more accessible than most. We could get quite close to the the base of the falls with a little rock-hopping, but we had to wait our turn.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 September 2023
- shifra w4,651 contributionsGreat short hike, Lots of stairsThis was a great hike to insert into our trip to Colorado. It was a short hike sandwiched between visits to Garden of the Gods and Rocky Mountain National Park. You can do the whole hike in an hour. The entrance was hard to locate; the GPS kept going past it. The parking is along the road and not in a lot. It is free. Be aware that there is not a flat, paved path going to the falls. There are several sets of stairs carved into the rock. The falls are very photogenic. It was not too crowded on the day we went because it looked like rain. But, then the sun came out and more people showed up. There is really only one good spot to pose in front of the falls; everyone jockeys for position.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 August 2024
- MikeB1952Santa Fe, New Mexico1,125 contributionsSemi-Hidden TreasureWe were heading up Boulder Canyon towards Nederland when we saw a bunch of cars parked and the Boulder Falls sign (parked cars mean wildlife, hiking or scenery). Wed been up Boulder Canyon a number of times over the years, but hadn't paid attention to the Falls. We were curious so this time we stopped. The Falls are accessed via a trail with numerous steps carved into the rocky hillside. There's quite a stream along the trail. Through the trees we could see the Falls. But just barely. The closer we got the more we could see of them. And are they terrific. At the end are the 'real' falls cascading over a rocky area. Lots of water. And lots of white water pouring down the canyon. Quite a few people (summer after all). But well behaved. We stopped and watched the water for awhile. Really nice stop.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 August 2024

This was a quick drive from our hotel in Boulder. The drive was beautiful as the road follows along side the creek. There is a pull out parking lot and you have to cross the street to view the falls on the other side. Wear good shoes. It’s a short hike but not handicapped accessible. There are manmade stairs and natural rock stairs with dirt and slippery gravel. All in all it only takes 5-10 min to climb up and get to. The scenery is beautiful and the spray from the waterfall felt great on a hot day.

Boulder Falls is a short drive from Boulder and worth the trip. There is parking on both sides of the road. If you need to cross the road, be patient and careful! A moderate short hike takes you to the falls. If the snow pack was good, the falls do not disappoint! We went in late July, and the falls were amazing!!

Stopped here on the way to Estes Park. Parking available along the road and short, narrow trail leads to the falls. Very pretty and relatively large. The trail leads down to the river, so it’s all very picturesque. Worth stopping if you have 15 minutes to spare.

The weather was good, not too hot and mostly sunny. The falls were a nice sight and the walk to the falls was fairly short. I would estimate its elevation at about 9000 ft so the walk can be a bit strenuous for someone from a low elevation. The trail is obvious but a bit narrow in places. Overall a pleasant visit.

The drive on Boulder Canyon Drive was beautiful (despite road construction). I pulled over at several areas to take pictures. When I arrived at the falls, it was a short hike to the Falls and well worth the drive. The falls were beautiful. I only wish I had more time to enjoy the area.

Decided to go to Boulder Falls since we had a few hours to spare before picking someone up in Westminster. Glad we read prior reviews which were favorable and correctly described the walk to the falls. I was not planning on going on a hike so I had sandals on which was perfectly fine as it's not really a hike it's a very short walk from the parking spots and the scenic waterfall was worth the drive even through construction. This would be an easy place to take young kids as it's just a short walk and not treacherous at all.

Nice place to relax especially after a quick drive to this falls. Its kind of a hidden place. On the way, you can stop by at the road side with picturesque views of the view s downstream and wet your feet in the cool and refreshing waters.

This should not be listed as a place to visit on trip advisor. The falls have been closed for years. A park ranger we spoke to said that there is no date for them to reopen. You can catch a small glimpse of the falls from the road but traffic is consistent and quick - kind of dangerous for small children to cross the road. You can watch rock climbers in the area - which is always fun and amazing.

Boulder Falls used to be a popular stopping-off point for people traveling in Boulder Canyon, but as of late spring 2008, the falls are closed indefinitely. I write this in May 2010 and they've been closed for about 2 years now. I drive the canyon often and will update if they re-open.
The problem is that we had tons of run-off and rock slide that spring and the rock wall became unstable. Several people were injured and one woman was killed by falling rock. Engineers have been brought in to see about a permanent solution but the only things they can recommend that will keep people from getting boulders dropped on their heads are solutions with hefty price tags. The unreasonable expense means that safety cannot be guaranteed (or even given good odds) so the falls remain closed.
As with most places like this, people do go past the barriers and ignore the signs. If they're caught, they're arrested. Sometimes they climb up the falls, fall into Boulder Creek and end up getting rescued. Then arrested. And sometimes they get hurt badly. I'm no fan of the nanny state, but this is one attraction that should be left alone. The loose rock up above really does sometimes still peel off and bounce all over the place.

Is Boulder Falls still closed? On google maps it says 'permanently closed'. Thanks =]

I drove by there today on our way up to Nederland, Ward and a drive on the Peak to Peak highway, and yes it is still closed and will be for some time to come. There was considerable damage done to in that area and all the way up to Estes Park. They are doing a lot of work, but the damage in some areas was total. There are still adventurous souls that walk by the gates, and up the trail, but that is something I cannot recommend, for obvious reasons. But …. the falls are only one minute portion of the majestic beauty that is all around. The peaks are covered in snow as are the Flatirons ( take the drive up to NCAR to see magnificent vistas). The weather has been in the 60's - 80's for the past few weeks and just unbelievable for hiking and mountain climbing and myriad other outdoor events that Boulder is known for.
