Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

it was snowing really good when we arrived which made the short hike (400 ft) very beautiful. although it is short the trees are tall and make it seem secluded. the sculpture was very nice piece of art.

Fun walk in the woods and snow. We pulled the two-year-old on a sled and it was perfect. The trail starts in the back of the ice skating rink parking lot. It was a little hard to find at first. The map made it seem like it was on the other side of the road.

We finally came up here to see Isak Heartstone. He's easy to get to from the nearby parking lot (which had plenty of parking while we were there). He's quite an impressive work and we were glad that we finally took the time to come up to Breck to see him.

Park in the Stephen C. West Ice Arena parking lot about a block off of Main Street behind High Line Railroad Park. At the SE end of the parking lot, you'll see the Illinois Creek Trailhead and a sign for "Trollstigen," also known as Isak Heartstone. Very short and easy walk to the very cool Trollstigen sculpture/piece of art. Spend thirty minutes to one hour.

We did this on a day we were bored in late November. It was well worth it. Not much other than to look at it, but it is pretty cool. We actually walked in the snow from town and it was a nice walk and a great place for a family pic.

A short walk from the ice rink. The kids loved getting to see Isak. They didn't realize how big he really was. Fun walking trail to get there and walked another trail to get back to the car.

If you park in the parking lot past the ice arena it’s only a 400ft hike with virtually no elevation to the troll. Nice unique statue to spend looking at for 5-10 minutes. There are porta-potties before the track and another trail you can hike in the park to the right. So if you’re any a full nature hike it’s available. Worth a stop if here for several days but questionable if you are short on time in Breckinridge

Wife and I saw Isak last year before all the snooty people in the original location petitioned to have him dismantled. He's in this new location which is closer to Main St. in Breck and they've really stepped up their game. They've installed stone paths to get in and wooden paths to exit along with stone benches by him. Very nicely done. It's literally right off of the ice arena parking lot but they have it coned off so people don't park there. Waste of parking when it could be used. So we parked down Main St. by the visitor center and walked 1.1 miles but if you can find a spot on the road closer, you're lucky. His new design is so cool. Then we walked the lower Illinois trailhead and they had folk singers in the woods. So cool.

Just a quick hike from downtown Breckenridge, you'll find Isak Hearthstone, the Breckenridge troll. Once you get to the Ice Arena parking lot (off Boreas Pass Road), walk to the southeast corner of the lot. There you'll see a sign for the Illinois Creek Trailhead which will take you to Isak.
The "hike" is about 400 ft and is a flat surface with the slightest incline. There were some icy parts since we visited in January but the trail is pretty wide so you can walk around any slippery areas.
You can continue down the trail for more hiking or turn around to get back to the parking lot. There are two paths between Isak and the parking lots so you don't have to worry about crossing paths with oncoming troll hunters.

My 2 y/o wasn’t interested in a troll, but a wood monster, well look out! Located on the Far East corner of the ice arena parking lot .. away from the rail road park, he’s literally 400+ feet away. Easy walk to get to him. We went at 08:30 and it was just starting to get packed so go early if u want to miss the crowds!
