AMAZING journey with my son on this road right before the sunset. We saw things that was pure eye candy. Cows in the middle of nowhere, breathtaking views, cliffs that you drive right on the edge.... omg. we were freaking out but loved every second. WE talk about this road all the time and we have a fun video of... More

A very beautiful drive, but certainly a little nerve wracking as some of the curves are unprotected and you're like feet from the edge driving along the road. No pictures were taken! lol

This is a beautiful drive from Canyon City north to Cripple Creek through a winding canyon. Be aware there are several areas of the road that are very narrow and look straight down into the canyon from the "shelf road".

This road has beautiful views. Just be very careful not to drive too fast. You want to take your time and enjoy the trip! Don't go in the winter if it's snowed or icy!

Close to what Apache trail is in Arizona, this one it gets you to Cripple Creek very close to 9500' elevation. The trail is beautiful and with tons of scenic views, The drive is not so exhausting as the Apache trail and one can really enjoy it.

I'm not going to lie, I was expecting it to be a bit more hairy. They said it would take 2 hours but we were done in halt that time. The second portion of the road is paved. It is still a beautiful and scenic drive and well worth doing.

We've done this drive, in conjunction with Phantom Canyon Rd (see my review of it too), several times. It is always enjoyable, especially in fall when the aspen trees are in full color. It is an all day trip to do this loop & also visit the historic mining towns of Cripple Creek & Victor. Shelf Rd is the least... More

This scenic drive goes from Canon City to Cripple Creek, Colorado. It is a dirt road, through mountainous country. The road in places is single lane, and there are blind corners, so I would not recommend taking trailers, buses, or large campers on it. You should be alert and cautious while driving it. It is a nice look at completely... More

This was a great little road for us to get away from everyone. the start of the road is a nice easy road following a creek through the canyon. We stopped a couple of places to take pictures and have a picnic. Then the second half of the trail is more of a cliff road carved into the side of... More

Fairly short trail yet great view. 4x4 not needed on regular day. I have one but never needed it. If you been on a mountain trail before then it shouldn't be scary as all mountain trails are fairly narrow and have no guard rail, etc. I drove down to canon city via Shelf Road and came back up via Phantom...
